Secondary Drafter – Protection & Control

We are looking for an experienced Secondary Drafter to join our electrical engineering team, supporting the design and delivery of protection, control, metering and SCADA systems across HV and EHV substation projects.

This is an opportunity to work across both greenfield and brownfield projects, collaborating closely with engineers and project teams to deliver high-quality secondary system designs for electrical utility assets.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate drafting requirements across small, medium and large projects from inception through to completion.

• Produce basic and detailed electrical schematics for protection and control panels in MV and HV substations.

• Develop AC/DC schematics, control circuits, wiring diagrams and termination drawings.

• Prepare cable schedules, terminal arrangements and wiring documentation.

• Support the design and development of protection, control, metering and SCADA systems.

• Work closely with engineers on protection relays, trip and close circuits and control schemes.

• Interpret how primary substation equipment interfaces with secondary protection and control systems.

• Assist with the design, development and optimisation of existing and future electrical assets.

• Ensure drafting deliverables meet project requirements, quality standards, timelines and budgets.
  

About You

You will have experience in secondary systems design within HV/EHV environments, ideally with exposure to electrical utility projects and substations.

We are particularly interested in candidates with:

• Experience with substation secondary systems.

• Strong understanding of protection and control concepts.

• Experience producing and interpreting electrical schematics.

• Experience with AC/DC schematics and control circuits.

• Understanding of protection relays, trip and close circuits.

• Experience with protection and control panels and terminal arrangements.

• Ability to produce cable schedules, wiring diagrams and termination drawings.

• Understanding of the interface between primary equipment and protection/control systems.

• Experience with greenfield and/or brownfield substation projects.

• Familiarity with protection relay configuration and fault analysis software

• Experience within the Australian electricity industry, including interstate projects is preferred.

• Experience working with clients and stakeholders is desirable.

• High proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation
