As a Youth Peer Support Worker with headspace Narre Warren and Pakenham, you’ll provide one-on-one peer support, facilitate peer support groups and help young people build on their strengths, wellbeing practices, recovery goals and community connections. You’ll be part of a community engagement team that helps young people feel heard, included and connected to the support around them.

Your role, your impact

As a Youth Peer Support Worker, you’ll help create spaces where young people can feel safe, respected and less alone. Through purposeful and safe sharing of your own lived experience, you’ll support young people to see that recovery and healing can look different for everyone, and that support is available.

You will:

• Provide peer support through one-on-one conversations and group-based support that promotes recovery, connection and hope
• Support young people to identify their strengths, wellbeing practices, recovery goals and meaningful support systems
• Share lived experience safely and purposefully, in ways that build trust and maintain professional boundaries
• Facilitate peer support groups and contribute to youth-focused activities across headspace and community settings
• Support community engagement activities connected to mental health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, and work and study
• Collaborate with the community engagement team, wider headspace staff and external stakeholders to deliver inclusive activities
• Amplify youth voice in planning, service improvement and engagement activities so services remain accessible and relevant
• Promote youth engagement by supporting website and social media activities that help young people connect with services

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who brings warmth, strong boundaries and a genuine commitment to walking alongside young people in ways that centre dignity, choice, strengths and recovery.

You bring:

• Lived experience of mental health challenges or trauma, and a recovery journey you are willing to share safely and purposefully
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build respectful, healthy relationships
• Confidence engaging with young people and supporting meaningful conversations
• Experience supporting or facilitating groups
• Ability to represent headspace in community settings and help amplify the voices of young people
• Current state-based driver’s licence

Please Note: As this is a Youth Peer Support Worker position, applications are only being accepted from candidates aged 18 to 25 years. This requirement aligns with the age range of the young people supported through headspace and the lived experience peer support model of the role.

What will make you stand out?

You’ll be well placed for this role if you also bring:

• Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, Certificate IV in Youth Work or an equivalent qualification
• Completion of, or commitment to complete, Intentional Peer Support Core Training
