About the role
Cranbrook School is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Swim Instructor to join our dynamic Aquatics team at the Cranbrook Aquatic and Fitness Centre (AFC).
The Swim Instructor plays a significant role in teaching students to swim safely and confidently, delivering lessons that build technical skill, water safety awareness and a genuine enjoyment of the water. The role provides students with a positive, encouraging, and structured learning environment in which they can progressively develop their swimming ability.
The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching swimming and working with children, with the ability to deliver engaging lessons, provide clear feedback and instruction, and create a fun, safe and supportive environment for all students.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Swim Instructor will be responsible for delivering safe, positive and motivating swimming lessons to groups, students, and individuals in line with the Learn to Swim curriculum and framework.
Responsibilities of the Swim Instructor include:
Delivering swimming lessons and assessing student progress in line with the Learn to Swim curriculum
Demonstrating correct swimming technique and water safety practices
Maintaining constant supervision of students to ensure a safe learning environment
Completing administrative and assessment requirements as part of each lesson
Contributing to a positive and engaging experience for students, parents and carers
This casual position offers hours that vary depending on class schedules and program demand.
ABOUT YOU
You are a qualified and enthusiastic Swim Instructor who is passionate about teaching children and adults to swim through positive, encouraging instruction.
You will have relevant swim teaching qualifications and the ability to engage students across a broad range of ages and abilities, delivering lessons that are safe, structured and enjoyable. The successful candidate will be reliable, organised and committed to supporting the values and vision of Cranbrook School.
SELECTION CRITERIA
AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (TSW), or equivalent
Current CPR certification (HLTAID009)
Current First Aid certification (HLTAID011)
Previous experience working in an aquatic or fitness centre will be highly regarded
Previous experience working in an independent school will be highly regarded
Additional AUSTSWIM qualifications (Infants and Pre-School Aquatics, Aquatics Access and Inclusion, Adults, or Towards Competitive Strokes) will be highly regarded
Pool Lifeguard Certificate will be highly regarded
Strong oral and written communication skills
High level organisational skills and excellent time management
A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
A strong focus on delivering superior customer service
A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
A firm commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
A demonstrated understanding of child safety and appropriate behaviours when engaging with children
