Forklift Operator / Quality Controller

About Us 

The Mackay Group is a family farming business that has been in operation for 75 years. The farming business has diversified to produce bananas, papaya, sugarcane, cattle and avocados.  The business is directed by the family’s 3rd generation. The Mackay Group is the largest banana producer in Australia, employing more than 500 people. This vertically integrated business also deals in ripening and wholesale marketing of their own produce, as well as other growers.

The Mackay’s Marketing Team is currently seeking a Forklift Operator / Quality Controller to join our team at our new warehouse in Epping, Melbourne. 

 
About The Role 

This is a hands-on role that combines quality assurance with warehouse and forklift duties, ensuring our fresh produce meets the highest standards while supporting the efficient movement and dispatch of stock.

This is a permanent full-time position that involves early starts and rostered weekend work.

Key responsibilities:

• Conduct retention sampling and product quality inspections

• Perform product testing and assessments

• Identify, record and report product defects and quality issues

• Safely operate forklifts to load and unload stock

• Transport palletised fresh produce throughout the warehouse and dispatch area

• Prepare and organise stock for dispatch, including pallet preparation and shrink wrapping

• Complete receivals and dispatch documentation accurately

• Maintain accurate stock and load records

• Carry out forklift pre-start checks and follow all safety procedures

• Learn and assist with the fruit ripening process

About You

You will have experience in quality control.  Knowledge of the Muddy Boots platform will be highly regarded.  A basic understanding of Excel and Word and an ability to work independently as well as part of a team is required. 

Skills / Certifications

• A current LF Forklift Licence and proven experience operating a forklift safely in a warehouse environment

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality, food safety and workplace safety

• A reliable, positive attitude with a willingness to learn, including the fruit ripening process

• A strong work ethic and the flexibility to work early starts and rostered weekends
