About the Position

Loreto College is seeking a Student Wellbeing Officer to support a dedicated and professional Pastoral Care Team. This is a temporary, part-time contract of sixteen and a half (16.5) hours per week, commencing on Tuesday, 06 October until Friday, 27 November 2026.

Availability to work on a Monday will be essential, with other days agreed in consultation with the Director of Pastoral Care.

The role of the Student Wellbeing Officer is to provide social and emotional support to students, while also engaging with parents and staff. The Student Wellbeing Officer must be able to provide support for a range of day-to-day matters affecting the school community and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people. While the role of the Student Wellbeing Officer will reflect the specific needs of the College, they may be involved in mentoring, community development, educational support and extra-curricular activities.

The duties of the position include:

• Social and/or emotional support — assisting students to develop knowledge, understanding and skills that support learning, positive behaviour and constructive social relationships through social skills programs

• Case Management: providing ongoing case management of students who require social and/or emotional support that does not meet the threshold for Counsellor intervention

• Mentoring: acting as a role model for students and assisting in the development of supportive relationships for, with, and among students

• Community development: enhancing the links between the school and its community, working with school-based support staff and community-based youth organisations and networks to support students.

• Educational support: assisting with classroom activities (under the direction of a teacher) where involvement by the Wellbeing Officer provides further social, emotional, or spiritual support for those students who may be at risk of disengagement.

• Event Support: active participation in Assemblies and assisting in the delivery of Pastoral Team or College community events

Qualifications

Appropriate qualifications in a relevant field of study, such as counselling or social work, are required (minimum of a Certificate level). It would be highly favourable to also have existing experience working with adolescents in a school setting.
