Job DescriptionsFloor Finisher Position Overview
A Floor Finisher installs, finishes, repairs, and maintains a range of floor coverings and finishes in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This role includes preparing subfloors and applying floor finishes such as vinyl, carpet, timber, laminate, and other resilient flooring materials in accordance with Australian standards, manufacturer specifications, and workplace health and safety requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Measure, plan, and prepare floor surfaces by cleaning, grinding, levelling, and applying primers or moisture barriers
· Install floor finishes including carpet, vinyl, laminate, timber, and other resilient flooring materials
· Cut, lay, join, stretch, glue, weld, seal, and trim floor coverings to achieve accurate fit and finish
· Operate hand tools, power tools, and specialised flooring equipment safely and effectively
· Read and interpret plans, specifications, and work instructions
· Ensure work complies with Australian Standards, building codes, and manufacturer requirements
· Maintain a clean and safe work area, including dust and silica control measures
· Identify defects or issues and report to supervisors or clients
· Perform repairs, maintenance, and replacement of existing floor finishes
· Handle materials safely and minimise waste
· Liaise professionally with supervisors, clients, and other trades on site
· Comply with all WHS legislation, site rules, and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
· Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
· Follow safe manual handling practices
· Participate in safety training and toolbox talks
· Report hazards, incidents, and near misses
Skills and Competencies
· Sound knowledge of floor finishing materials and installation techniques
· Ability to accurately measure, cut, and install flooring products
· Competence in using hand and power tools
· Strong attention to detail and workmanship
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Good time management and organisational skills
· Physical fitness suitable for manual work
Pay: $75,000.00 – $83,000.00 per year
