About the role
Maintenance Fitter
Sumich is Australia’s largest exporter of fresh onions and carrots, proudly supplying premium produce to both domestic and international markets. We are currently seeking a Maintenance Fitter to join our maintenance team in Don, Tasmania.
This is a hands-on, full-time role, working within a small, experienced maintenance team, on a rotating shift roster, including both day and afternoon shifts during the season. In the off-season, days shifts will be the norm. You’ll play a key part in keeping our operation running smoothly by performing preventative and reactive maintenance on a range of mechanical systems and equipment.
Key responsibilities:
Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on a range of production equipment, including hydraulic systems, conveyors, and packaging machines with high speed pneumatics
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and carry out necessary repairs
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance
Work closely with production teams to reduce downtime and maintain productivity
Carry out preventative maintenance activities according to a schedule
Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment
Work safely and in accordance with WHS requirements and site procedures
What you’ll bring:
Essential:
Experience in a manufacturing, food processing, or agricultural environment
Experience with, or willingness and ability to learn about specialised machinery controlled by PLCs or computer interfaces
Assist to assist with the installation, adjustment, and alignment of new equipment or components, ensuring correct mechanical setup according to specifications
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and fault-finding skills
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and within a team
Full working rights in Australia
Desirable:
Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
An understanding of high-speed pneumatics
Current forklift licence
