This is an exciting opportunity to become the technical custodian of our Microsoft Fabric platform, helping drive the evolution of a modern data environment that enables trusted insights, self-service analytics and smarter decision-making across one of Australia's largest local governments.

Working alongside specialists in Azure, Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Information Security and Data Governance, you'll help shape the future of enterprise data capabilities while ensuring our Microsoft Fabric environment remains secure, scalable and high performing.

About the Team

The Chief Technology Office is entering an exciting new chapter.

Following the introduction of our new IT Operating Model and the transition of key technology services in-house, we're transforming how technology is delivered across the City. Our focus is on building modern platforms, accelerating innovation and creating technology services that are responsive, secure and aligned to organisational outcomes.

As part of the Enterprise Data & Analytics Platform team, you'll contribute to the growth of a modern Microsoft-based data platform spanning Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure and Purview.

You'll work in a highly collaborative environment with specialists across cloud, data engineering, analytics and governance to deliver meaningful outcomes for our organisation and community.

About the role 

As the Microsoft Fabric Platform Administrator (internally referred to as Platform Administrator), you will take ownership of the City's Microsoft Fabric environment and help drive its ongoing maturity and adoption.

You will be responsible for platform administration, optimisation, governance and operational excellence, ensuring the platform supports the City's growing demand for advanced analytics and data-driven decision making.

This role offers the opportunity to influence platform standards, contribute to technical roadmaps and help shape how enterprise data services are delivered across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and optimise the City's Microsoft Fabric environment, including capacities, workspaces, OneLake, Data Warehouses, Lakehouses, Pipelines and Power BI services.
• Manage tenant configuration, security settings, access controls and governance standards.
• Monitor platform utilisation, performance and capacity consumption to ensure optimal service delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement by evaluating and implementing new Microsoft Fabric capabilities and platform enhancements.
• Develop and maintain operational standards, support procedures and technical documentation.
• Partner with Azure platform teams to ensure effective integration, networking, security and operational management across the broader cloud environment.
• Collaborate with Data Governance and Purview teams to support enterprise information management and governance objectives.
• Provide guidance and support to business and technology teams leveraging Fabric and Power BI services.
• Contribute to platform roadmap planning, technology uplift initiatives and service improvement programs.
• Promote best practices across the Microsoft data and analytics ecosystem

About You

You are passionate about modern cloud data platforms and enjoy combining technical expertise with stakeholder engagement.

You're curious, solutions-focused and excited by the opportunity to work with emerging Microsoft technologies in a large and complex environment.

You'll bring:

• Experience administering Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure data platforms or similar enterprise analytics environments.
• Strong understanding of cloud platform administration, security, identity, governance and operational best practice.
• Experience managing access controls, platform configuration and enterprise service operations.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric workloads, including workspace administration, capacity management and tenant management.
• An understanding of enterprise analytics platforms, data services and self-service reporting environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholder groups.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

Highly Regarded:

The following certifications are advantageous but not essential:

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
• Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-600)
• Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700)
• Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300)

Equivalent practical experience and demonstrated capability will be considered equally valuable.
