Livestock Officer

You will play a hands-on role in the Cooma cattle yards, keeping livestock moving safely, yards clean and organised, and records accurate so the whole plant can run smoothly and meet animal welfare standards every day.

How you’ll contribute:

• Handle and move cattle safely through the yards using low stress techniques.
• Unload trucks, draft cattle into pens, and keep mobs separated as required.
• Monitor cattle for injury or distress and report issues to the Stockyards Supervisor.
• Keep yards clean, clear and safe, including regular water trough cleaning.
• Complete basic yard records and documentation accurately as needed.

To succeed, you’ll bring:

• Practical livestock handling skills, ideally from working with cattle in yards (or a strong interest in learning – trainee role available).
• A real commitment to animal welfare and low stress handling at all times.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, physically demanding outdoor environment.
• Confidence to follow procedures, record basic data and complete simple paperwork.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Willingness to follow all safety procedures and work occasional out of hours shifts if needed.
