About the role
Systems Engineer – Graduate Automation & Controls Opportunity!
Location: Cranbourne West and Knoxfield
Reports to: Systems Manager
Company: Nuttelex Food Products
About Nuttelex
As one of Australia's most recognised food brands, Nuttelex has been producing quality products for almost 100 years. From our beginnings as a pioneer in dairy-free spreads, we've grown into a trusted manufacturer supplying customers across retail, foodservice and international markets. The business is proud to make food that everyone can eat and beverages that everyone can drink. We operate across two manufacturing sites, our long-standing site in Knoxfield and a brand-new state-of-the-art facility out in Cranbourne West.
The Role
As our business continues to grow, we have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Systems Engineer (Automation & Controls) to join our Systems Team on a permanent basis. This is a varied and hands-on role where you'll have the opportunity to develop hands-on technical skills across various electrical, automation and process disciplines while learning from experienced professionals. Under the guidance of Senior Engineers, from day one you will get to take ownership of the design, testing and implementation of new systems and processes. A structured development pathway designed to build your skills and confidence, with the goal of becoming an independent and highly skilled automation and controls engineer within two to three years. The work available includes the latest in automation, advanced robotics, our Ignition-based MES and SCADA systems and emerging AI technologies.
If you’re a curious Graduate Engineer eager to gain real-world experience in a fast-paced, high-tech environment, this is a great opportunity to learn, contribute and grow. We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, working collaboratively, and, importantly, having some fun along the way.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Build: Implement continuous improvement projects across a range of systems between sites including MES & SCADA, electrical systems, PLC controls, and other emerging technology.
Troubleshoot: Support for Operations and Maintenance to diagnose and resolve issues across our automation and control systems when they arise to keep production running safely and reliably.
Collaborate: Support the Systems Department in delivering systems and engineering projects across the business at both manufacturing sites.
Analysis: Raise potential bottlenecks and other inefficiencies with the team and provide potential solutions to be investigated.
Maintain: Ensure OT systems across both manufacturing sites are consistently operational and secure.
About you
Passionate: Love keeping up to date with the latest in engineering, automation and technology
Curious: Willingness to learn and grow in the role and learn about all the different areas of the business
Safety Focused: Prioritize safety and quality with all work you conduct
Problem Solver: Enjoys breaking down complex challenges, understanding how systems interact, and developing practical solutions.
Driven: A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on enhancing system efficiency, productivity, and staff capability.
Teammate: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels.
Communication: Able to clearly explain ideas and document work to effectively share knowledge to other team members across the business.
Experience & Skills:
Recently completed, or soon to complete, an Engineering degree
Basic understanding of PLC programming and control systems
Basic understanding of electrical design
Strong problem solving and communication skills
Willingness to learn and develop hands-on in a live manufacturing environment
Ability to work as part of a team

Other experience that may be advantageous:
