About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a culturally safe and community-focused early childhood education program that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. The Family Wellbeing Service Specialist will play a key role to improve early childhood development, care, education and school readiness across our kindergartens.

The ATSICHS Family Wellbeing Services (FWS) program provides a coordinated and culturally safe support system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families experiencing vulnerability. By offering a comprehensive mix of services tailored to family and community needs, we aim to build family capacity, strengthen community connections, and safeguard the wellbeing of children. At ATSICHS, through holistic case management, and collaboration with multiple service providers, FWS empowers families to navigate challenges, develop essential life skills, and access therapeutic support. The program also engages with families involved in the child protection system, working to address safety concerns, facilitate reunification, and support positive outcomes for children and their families.

Duties

• Improve school attendance and education engagement of parents, enrolment in Kindy, and family participation in early years playgroups.

• Ensuring all children meet developmental milestones by facilitating family access to ATSICHS paediatric services, specialist allied health supports, and 

  child and maternal family supports.
• Building parenting capability, skills and knowledge that promote flourishing child rearing. Facilitate imbedding structured family routines that improve household management, healthy eating and quality family time.
• Improving family health by coordinating ATSICHS medical clinics for annual preventative health assessments.
• Be upfront in explaining client rights, worker responsibilities, mandatory reporting requirements, and complaints processes.
• Deliver immediate safety assessment and safety responses, documented and approved by the Line Manager, in instances of domestic and family violence, self-harm/mental health, and child abuse.
• Facilitate ATSICHS 'Narrative Assessment Tools' completed in full by client ensuring the voices of clients are imbedded in their assessment. Facilitate conversations and introspection on all assessment domains.
• Facilitate FLDM meetings with broader family kin, gaining family consensus on their challenges and path forward.
• Deliver case managed services according to the program model of care, ensuring minimum case load requirements are maintained to ensure equitable access to services for community.
• Maintain accurate and detailed case notes of all client interactions, ensuring case notes are written from the perspective of clients in their voice.
• Complete ORS (client-led brief wellbeing rating tool) upon each occasion of direct face-to-face support provided to client.

Support will be delivered both on-site at our Kindy locations, buses, and through-home visits, with the aim of building strong, trusting relationships with families and connecting them to relevant services when needed.

Benefits

• Starting annual salary of $105,673 (depending on qualifications and experience).
• Additional 12% Super + Not for Profit Salary Packaging (Increases your take home pay).

Required

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant social services field with at least 4 years case management experience in family support, child protection, youth support, housing or related field.

OR

• Diploma in relevant Community Services field with at least 6 years in a case management role in family support, child protection, youth support, housing, or related field.

OR

• At least 6 years case management experience in family support, child protection, youth, housing or related field. A commitment to complete Diploma (funded by ATSICHS) while working. And identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (with confirmation proof) OR non-indigenous and having worked for an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation for the last 4 years.

AND 

• Exceptional case management skills, including grammatical writing ability, personal organisation and time management, and execution of services according to the model of care phases of work.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to create new social work theoretical frameworks of practice, aligned with ATSICHS values. Ability to coach other staff on client interventions that build client motivation, insight and acceptance, self-awareness, decision making (agency), and sustainable behaviour change.
• A genuine passion for early intervention and working with young children and families.
• Ability to critique and problem solve legislative grey zones, while managing organisational and child/client harm risks.
• Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Influence decisions of external stakeholders, including Child Safety, Youth Justice, Schools, and Hospitals.
• A flexible, proactive and compassionate approach working in the community and with families.
• Ability to connect through systems panel coordination numerous internal ATSICHS programs and services to activate wrap-around care for clients, trading-off and negotiating resources across the organisation and between other teams to achieve client impact.

Additional Requirements

• Requirement to travel across the Logan and/or Brisbane region, as per program location.
• Current drivers' licence.
• Valid police check.
• Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply.
