Principal Quality | 12-month Fixed Term | Perth

We are currently seeking a Principal Quality professional supporting our WAIO Asset Western Australia Asset Projects (WAAP), providing specialist quality expertise, assurance and leadership across the WAAP project portfolio. This role is critical in ensuring quality requirements are embedded throughout the project phases, supporting safe and reliable assets that meet BHP's long term performance objectives. 

This position is based in Perth with occasional site travel as required during project execution.  

You will play a pivotal role in leading the development, implementation and continual improvement of quality management strategies, standards, governance frameworks, processes, systems and plans across the WAAP portfolio. The role provides specialist quality leadership, assurance and technical expertise to support safe, reliable and fit-for-purpose project outcomes while maximising value and long term asset performance.

As the Principal Quality, you will: 

• Engage early with Development and Delivery teams to ensure quality requirements are embedded throughout all project phases and reflected in project deliverables. 
• Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of quality management systems, standards and processes across the WAAP portfolio.  
• Review and endorse quality documentation and deliverables to ensure quality management arrangements are fit for purpose and support project performance.  
• Coordinate contractor, supplier and vendor quality activities to ensure quality requirements, records and deliverables are effectively managed.  
• Coordinate the execution of risk-based quality management and assurance plans to support effective project delivery.  
• Identify and implement improvement initiatives to enhance project performance, capital efficiency and productivity. 
• Evaluate lessons learned, industry-leading practices and innovations to drive continuous improvement in quality management. 
• Provide quality guidance, assurance reporting and risk-based recommendations to project and functional leadership teams. 
• Collaborate with Development Delivery Teams to ensure fit for purpose processes and tools are available to achieve the project scope, cost and schedule requirement.

Proactive, credible and influential, you build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups and communicate confidently at all levels of the organisation. As a trusted advisor, you influence without authority, provide constructive challenge and drive alignment to achieve quality outcomes across complex project environments. You bring strong governance, assurance and stakeholder engagement capability with the ability to coach, influence and inspire project teams, contractors and leaders to embed quality excellence and continuous improvement 

• Extensive years of experience in Quality Management, Quality Assurance and Quality Control within engineering, construction, mining, resources or major project environments. 
• Technical background with experience delivering quality outcomes in project environments. 
• Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and improving Quality Management Systems. 
• Experience applying governance and assurance frameworks within project delivery environments. 
• Sound understanding of ISO 9001 principles. 
• Demonstrated ability to apply risk-based judgement to quality surveillance, inspection planning and non conformance management. 
• Proven experience working across multiple contractors, suppliers and delivery models. 
• Experience identifying and implementing quality improvement initiatives across multiple projects or portfolios. 
• Ability to engage, influence and motivate others to drive continual improvement. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to educate and promote quality awareness. 
• Ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise competing demands. 
• Technical knowledge of trades desirable.

• Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or significant experience in Quality Management within projects, construction, mining, resources or industrial environments. 
• Lead Auditor qualifications  

• Experience delivering mining or resources projects 
• Exposure to large‑scale brownfield and/or greenfield construction environments
