Sector Capacity and Engagement Specialist - First Nations Community Housing Futures Program

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Community Housing Futures Program and contribute to a statewide initiative designed to strengthen Indigenous Community Housing Organisations (ICHOs) and support the growth of social and affordable housing.

Community Housing Futures is a collaboration between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Queensland (ATSIHQ), CHIA Qld and Q Shelter. Funded by the Queensland Government, the program supports community housing providers and Indigenous Community Housing Organisations to increase capacity, build partnerships and expand social and affordable housing supply across Queensland.

Employed by Q Shelter and hosted by ATSIHQ, the Sector Capacity and Engagement Specialist - First Nations will work with Indigenous Community Housing Organisations throughout Queensland to identify growth opportunities, strengthen organisational capability, support strategic partnerships and contribute to improved housing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Key responsibilities

Working with ATSIHQ, Community Housing Futures partners and Indigenous Community Housing Organisations across Queensland, you will:

• Build strong relationships with Indigenous Community Housing Organisations and support their capacity for growth and development.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen organisational capability and support future housing growth initiatives.
• Work directly with organisations to understand their aspirations, challenges and readiness for growth.
• Facilitate access to resources, professional services and capacity-building opportunities that help organisations achieve their goals.
• Collaborate with Indigenous Community Housing Organisations, sector partners, government and industry stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and support improved housing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

About you

You are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander professional who is passionate about empowering communities and strengthening the First Nations housing sector.

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in housing, business management, human services or a related field.
• Demonstrated communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, Elders and communities.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic insights and culturally informed advice and work collaboratively across diverse teams and external partners.
• Understanding of, or the ability to quickly acquire an understanding of, community housing provision in Queensland.
• Experience in community housing, capacity building, or working alongside Indigenous Community Housing Organisations or other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led organisations will be highly regarded

Role conditions

• Fixed-term position until September 2027, subject to ongoing program funding.
• SCHADS Award Level 6.1.
• Part-time position, 0.6 FTE (22.8 hours per week).
• Hybrid working arrangements available. The successful applicant will be hosted by ATSIHQ and primarily based in the ATSIHQ office while also accessing flexible work options.
• Some travel within Queensland will be required.
