Help Build a New Youth Justice School in Logan
Youth Mentor – Ohana Academy Logan
Ohana for Youth & 54 reasons – Empowering Young People, Changing Futures
This is an opportunity to be part of something new and make a genuine difference in the lives of young people.
Ohana for Youth, in partnership with 54 reasons (part of Save the Children Australia), is establishing a new Youth Justice School in Logan supporting young people who have disengaged, or are at significant risk of disengaging, from mainstream education, particularly those involved in the youth justice system.
We are looking for compassionate, resilient and relationship-focused Youth Mentors to support students with complex learning, behavioural, social and emotional needs.
Working alongside teachers, youth development staff, wellbeing professionals and the broader school team, you will provide individual and small-group support both in and outside the classroom, helping young people engage with learning, develop positive behaviours and build the skills they need for their future.
This is a hands-on role where strong relationships matter. You will have the opportunity to support young people who may have experienced significant barriers to education and help create a safe, structured and culturally responsive environment where they can succeed.
Ohana Academy Logan is committed to promoting a safe, inclusive and culturally responsive environment for all students, ensuring their safety and wellbeing is prioritised in every aspect of the Academy's operations. We recognise our fundamental duty of care and are fully committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people in our community. This responsibility is shared by every member of our organisation – leaders, staff, volunteers and contractors – and extends across all aspects of Academy life and operations.
As a Youth Mentor, you will work directly with students to provide practical, personalised support that helps them engage with education and develop positive social, emotional and behavioural skills.
You will work under the direction of the Youth Development Coordinator and Principal and alongside the Teaching and Learning and Wellbeing teams to provide consistent support for students across the school.
Key responsibilities will include:
This is a unique opportunity to help establish a new school and shape the way young people are supported, engaged and connected to education from the beginning.
You are someone who builds genuine relationships with young people and understands that consistency, trust and patience are essential when supporting students who have experienced barriers to education.
You will bring:
Most importantly, you will be someone who believes that every young person has the capacity to succeed when given the right relationships, support and opportunities.

54 reasons, part of Save the Children Australia, is a leading child rights organisation delivering evidence-based programs to help children and young people thrive.
Together, we are creating a school where education, wellbeing and community come together to reduce reoffending and build brighter futures for young people in Logan.
