About the role
LED Display & AV Lead Technician — AV & Communications
Protecc Pty Ltd | Tweed Heads South, NSW | Full-time | National travel
Lead our national LED and AV installations. Real ownership, real autonomy, and work you can point at.
Protecc is a security, automation and AV integration company on the Tweed Coast, delivering across Northern NSW, South East Queensland and increasingly right across the country. We work on residential, strata, commercial and government projects — CCTV, access control, intercoms, KNX and building automation, AV, networking and fibre. We hold Control4 Gold certification, and we're known for doing the technical work properly with documentation to match.
Our LED display work is growing fast. We need someone senior to own it.
The role
This is a lead position, not a follower one. You'll run LED display and AV installations on sites around the country, direct our technicians on the ground, and be the person the client, the builder and the project manager turn to when they need a straight answer.
You'll be:
Leading the installation, commissioning and handover of LED display systems — cabinet build-up, mounting and rigging coordination, receiving card configuration, pixel mapping, port allocation and full commissioning
Programming and troubleshooting Novastar hardware end to end — NovaLCT, VX and H series controllers, splicers, sending and receiving cards, screen connection mapping, Smart Settings
Designing and building the network and comms backbone underneath it — IP schemes, VLANs, switching, fibre, signal distribution
Delivering broader AV works — displays, matrix switching, audio distribution, control systems
Leading and mentoring a crew on site, and setting the standard for workmanship and safety
Owning the client relationship on site: progress updates, scope conversations, and heading off issues before they become problems
Producing proper handover documentation — as-builts, commissioning records, asset registers, operating guides
Travel and driving
This role involves substantial travel across Australia. Some jobs are a few days, some run longer. If regular time away from home doesn't suit your circumstances, this won't be the right fit — we'd rather say that now than surprise you later. All travel, accommodation and meals are covered, and we plan work well in advance wherever we can.
A current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence is essential. You'll be issued a fully maintained company vehicle and you'll be driving to and between sites regularly, so this is a hard requirement — applications without one can't be considered.
What you'll need
Essential:
A current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence — this is a must
Demonstrated hands-on experience installing and commissioning LED display systems
Novastar experience, or LED experience with the aptitude to master Novastar quickly — if you've commissioned on another platform and you learn systems fast, we'll get you across it
Genuine competence with computers, networks and IP systems. This is a data and communications role as much as a trade role
Proven experience leading a team on site and running a job through to completion
Excellent written and verbal communication — you'll deal with clients, builders, PMs and consultants directly
Willingness to travel nationally
Working at heights and EWP experience
Highly regarded:
Deep Novastar knowledge — NovaLCT, VX and H series, receiving card configuration, screen mapping, port capacity planning
Security systems experience — Inner Range Integriti, Hikvision, access control, CCTV
ACMA Open Cabler Registration
NSW Security Licence (Class 2) or QLD equivalent
Control4 or other control system experience
Audio networking (Dante, AES67)
Rigging or structural mounting experience
Trade qualification in electrical, electronics or similar
The two things we can't train are site leadership and the ability to hold a room. Everything else is learnable, and we'll invest in getting you there.
What we offer
Salary, plus superannuation, negotiated on experience
Fully maintained vehicle, tools, laptop and phone
All travel and accommodation covered, plus travel allowances
Ongoing manufacturer training and certification
A small, capable team where your work is visible and your input actually changes how we operate
Genuine autonomy — this role carries real ownership, not a task list
How to apply
Send your resume and a short note about the LED or large-format display projects you've worked on — screen size, pitch, controller platform, and what your role was — to [email address].
Applicants must have the right to work in Australia. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
