About the role
Permanent Part-Time | 24+ Hours | Additional Hours Available | Abbotsford VIC + Hybrid
Join a genuinely close-knit teamNJM & Co Financial Solutions is a boutique bookkeeping, payroll and BAS Agent practice in Abbotsford VIC. We're adding to our team to build capacity, flexibility and backup across the business.
This role suits someone who genuinely enjoys bookkeeping and payroll, takes pride in getting things right, and would rather be an important part of a small team than one person among hundreds. Alongside client bookkeeping and payroll work, the role also includes supporting the Director directly — assisting with inbox tasks and workflow, identifying priorities, following up outstanding matters and making sure clients are looked after.
Our office is based in a converted apartment rather than a typical commercial space, which gives it a genuinely warm, homely feel you won't find in a corporate building. We work closely together, help each other out, and run social events through the year. There are two super cute elderly cavoodles who say hello from time to time.
The rolePermanent part-time, minimum approximately 24 hours per week, with additional hours (potentially up to around 38) available during EOFY and peak compliance periods, leave cover, staff absences and busy client periods. Exact hours and pattern are negotiable with the right applicant.
Due to peak workload, we're unable to accommodate leave requests each year between mid-June and 25 August, including the July school holidays. There is also an approximate two-week shutdown over the Christmas/New Year period.
Depending on experience, the work may include end-to-end bookkeeping, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing and reconciliation, superannuation and payroll compliance, BAS/IAS preparation support, month-end processing, WorkCover and payroll tax support, investigating and resolving discrepancies, providing backup across the team, and even client management if circumstances permit.
Immediate start / short-notice availability highly regarded
What we're looking forWe can teach you our clients, systems and processes. What's harder to teach is judgement — noticing when something doesn't look right, asking sensible questions, taking ownership of finding an answer, and adapting when priorities change. We don't expect you to know everything. We do expect you to think.
A bookkeeping qualification is desirable, but practical experience, common sense and judgement matter more to us than qualifications alone. Experience with Xero, MYOB, and payroll is essential, and BAS Agent registration (or working towards it) is a bonus.
Remuneration, training and flexibilityCompetitive remuneration based on experience, with genuine scope for an early increase once capability in the role has been demonstrated.
The role is initially office-based (approximately six months, possibly shorter if you adapt and learn quickly) while you learn our clients, systems and processes. Once established, the arrangement is approximately 60% office-based and 40% from home, with some flexibility around start and finish times to assist with commuting.
Free onsite parking is generally available - a valuable addition to the overall package.
Our recruitment processPlease submit your CV via SEEK. To ensure the role and location are a great mutual fit, shortlisted applicants will first complete a brief written questionnaire, followed by a Zoom/Teams interview, and finishing with an in-person meeting so you can get to know the team and our work environment
This position is not suitable for applicants who are currently operating as self-employed bookkeepers, accountants or BAS Agents.
Please note: Open to Australian permanent residents with full working rights. No agencies please.
