About the role
About the role
Reporting to management and working closely with the operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining Local Freight's transport compliance standards while ensuring trucks and trailers remain safe, compliant and properly maintained. This is a practical, hands-on position where you will have the authority and responsibility to identify issues, implement improvements and ensure compliance requirements are followed throughout the business.
Key responsibilities
Maintain the company's NHVAS accreditation and coordinate preparation for external audits
Ensure ongoing compliance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and Chain of Responsibility requirements
Monitor compliance through Electronic Work Diary (EWD) systems
Maintain accurate compliance documentation, registers and supporting records
Monitor driver performance and identify potential compliance risks
Maintain and continually improve Chain of Responsibility (CoR) processes
Work closely with the operations team to ensure compliance requirements are understood and consistently followed
Investigate compliance issues and implement corrective actions where required
Conduct monthly toolbox talks covering safety, compliance and operational requirements
Manage fleet maintenance records through the Gearbox fleet management system
About you
Strong experience within the heavy vehicle transport, freight or logistics industry
Previous experience in transport compliance, fleet compliance or transport operations
Sound working knowledge of the Heavy Vehicle National Law
Strong understanding of Chain of Responsibility
Familiarity with NHVAS accreditation and audit requirements
Experience working with Electronic Work Diaries or similar driver compliance systems
Practical knowledge of heavy vehicle servicing, defects and preventative maintenance
Strong record-keeping and administrative skills
Current HC or MC Driver Licence (essential)
Demonstrated heavy-vehicle transport industry experience (essential)
