Female Disability Support Worker – Summer Hill, NSW
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking an energetic, friendly, and engaging Female Support Worker to join our team and provide ongoing community access support to a 36-year-old female participant. We are specifically looking for experienced individuals with a background in supporting people with mental health challenges and psychosocial disabilities. Shift Details
Location: Summer Hill, NSW 2130 Day: Thursdays Time: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM (3 hours per week) Proposed Commencement: 20 August 2026 Meeting Point: Summer Hill Station (Please note: The participant does not want support workers attending or collecting her from her residence.)
About the Participant The participant is seeking support with community access and social participation. She is living with schizophrenia, complex PTSD, intellectual disability, medication-controlled epilepsy, and cerebral palsy. She is mobile and does not require manual handling, feeding assistance, or mobility equipment.
She highly values conversation and engagement. She would benefit from someone who is easy to understand, happy to talk, and genuinely interested in connecting with her throughout the shift. Due to her schizophrenia, she may experience delusions and occasionally make abrupt or incorrect comments. The ideal worker will be patient, non-judgmental, and comfortable responding calmly and respectfully without becoming discouraged or disengaged.
Responsibilities Of The Role
Support the participant in leading an active lifestyle and engaging in community activities of her choice.Provide active conversation and companionship, encouraging positive social interactions and healthy friendships.Encourage independence, health, wellbeing, and confidence in the community.Utilise positive behaviour strategies, a person-centred approach, and a trauma-informed lens to provide effective support.Maintain accurate progress notes and ensure thorough record-keeping.Demonstrate strong verbal communication skills, remaining calm and professional during complex interactions or delusions.Build a strong, positive relationship while respecting boundaries and personal preferences.Respectfully assist with community access while ensuring dignity and independence.
