Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist role located in Hobart, TAS. The CNC Machinist sets up and operates CNC mills and lathes to machine cast and bar stock components to precise specifications. Daily tasks include interpreting technical drawings and work instructions, selecting tooling, programming or adjusting CNC controls, and performing test runs to verify accuracy. The role also involves monitoring machine performance, inspecting finished parts, and documenting measurements to ensure quality standards are met. The machinist collaborates with foundry and machining teams, performs basic equipment maintenance, and follows safety procedures and housekeeping practices in the workshop.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong skills in Machine Operation and Machinery handling for CNC mills, lathes, and related equipment.Candidates should possess skills in Machining and Milling, including setting up workpieces, selecting tools, and optimizing machining parameters.Candidates should possess skills in Quality Control, including dimensional inspection, use of measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges), and documentation of results.Relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship in machining, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering is beneficial.Experience with CNC programming (G-code or conversational controls), reading engineering drawings, and working with a range of metals is advantageous.Ability to follow safety protocols, work accurately with attention to detail, and collaborate effectively in a workshop environment is required.Basic computer skills and familiarity with production reporting or shop-floor systems are beneficial.
