About the role
STRUCTURAL SPECIALIST – HEAVY MINING EQUIPMENT
Mackay and Southern Bowen Basin
Full-time | Company vehicle and fuel card | Overtime, site allowances and RDOs
USE YOUR PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE TO ELIMINATE THE UNKNOWN
iScope is seeking an experienced Structural Specialist to support established condition monitoring and repair management programs across Central Queensland.
The role will primarily support a coal mine in the Southern Bowen Basin, with additional work at other mine sites as required.
This is a practical position combining structural inspections, repair planning, welding quality assurance and reporting. You will become familiar with the individual assets and take ownership of monitoring their condition, repair history and recurring problem areas over time.
THE ROLE |
Your responsibilities will include:
Inspecting Excavator Buckets, Shovel Dippers and Doors, Dragline Buckets, Truck Trays and other structural mining components
Identifying and documenting cracking, wear, deformation and previous repairs
Monitoring known defects through photographs, measurements and inspection records
Completing thickness measurements and tracking wear trends
Preparing inspection reports, defect registers, repair notifications and practical repair recommendations
Assisting with repair prioritisation, forward planning and development of repair scopes
Reviewing welding procedures, ITPs and NDT reports
Coordinating inspection requirements with site personnel, repairers and 3rd Party NDT providers
Monitoring onsite and offsite repairs and completing post-maintenance inspections
Site attendance will be roster-based and scheduled as required to align with planned maintenance and repair activities. Office-based time will be allocated for reporting, planning and ongoing program management.
You will have ongoing support from the iScope team but will work mostly unsupervised. You must be comfortable managing your workload, communicating directly with site stakeholders and following identified issues through to completion.
WHAT’S ON OFFER |
Full-time employment directly with iScope
Company vehicle and fuel card
Competitive base salary
Paid overtime and applicable site allowances
RDOs
Exposure to multiple mine sites and equipment types
Ongoing technical and operational support
ABOUT YOU |
This position would suit an experienced Welding Inspector, Welding Supervisor or trade-qualified Boilermaker looking to use their practical experience in a specialist inspection and repair management role.
You will ideally have:
A Boilermaker, Welder or equivalent trade qualification
A recognised Welding Inspector qualification
Welding Supervisor qualifications or relevant supervisory experience
Practical experience with heavy mobile mining equipment
Strong knowledge of structural cracking, wear, welding processes and repair sequencing
The ability to interpret welding procedures, ITPs and NDT reports
Strong reporting, photographic documentation and computer skills
A current Australian driver licence
Australian working rights and the ability to satisfy mine-site access requirements
Experience with SAP, condition monitoring, repair scoping and major equipment refurbishments will be highly regarded.
Applicants with extensive practical mining equipment experience who do not hold every preferred qualification are still encouraged to apply.
