Data Communications Engineer

The Opportunity:

• Full-Time | Ongoing contract of employment.
• $130,000 - $150,000 per annum pro rata + 12% super + leave loading (dependent on qualifications and experience).
• Chadstone Campus – onsite parking with close proximity to public transport.

The Technology Services Department (TSD) plays a key role in advancing Holmesglen's digital capability, delivering innovative technology solutions that support teaching, learning and business operations. Through a focus on innovation and continuous improvement, the team helps drive organisational excellence and future-ready ways of working across the Institute.

As the Data Communications Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining the technology infrastructure that connects Holmesglen's campuses, systems and people. As the Institute's principal network specialist, you will provide technical leadership across a complex enterprise environment, overseeing core networking, wireless, firewalls, secure remote access and cloud connectivity services.

Working closely with technology, cybersecurity and business stakeholders, you will drive major infrastructure projects, strengthen network resilience and security, and ensure staff and students benefit from reliable, high-performing connectivity services.

As the Data Communications Engineer, you will:

• Lead the strategic direction, architecture and continuous improvement of Holmesglen's enterprise network and communications environment across multiple campuses.
• Design, implement and support secure, reliable and high-performing networking solutions, including routing, switching, wireless, firewalls, VPN and cloud connectivity services.
• Act as the Institute's senior technical authority and escalation point for complex network, security and connectivity issues.
• Deliver major network infrastructure projects, lifecycle upgrades and technology initiatives that enhance resilience, performance and user experience.
• Lead, mentor and develop the Data Communications and Telephony team, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• Partner with internal stakeholders, vendors and cybersecurity specialists to strengthen network security, governance and operational effectiveness.

To be successful, you’ll have:

• Extensive experience designing, implementing and supporting enterprise-scale network and communications environments within complex organisations.
• Deep technical expertise across routing and switching, wireless networking, SD-WAN, firewalls, VPN technologies and cloud connectivity services.
• Demonstrated success delivering major network infrastructure projects, technology upgrades and transformation initiatives that improve performance, resilience and security.
• Proven ability to provide expert technical leadership, resolve complex connectivity challenges and act as a trusted advisor to technical and business stakeholders.
• Strong experience developing network architecture, security controls, technical standards and governance frameworks that support reliable and secure operations.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Network Engineering or a related discipline, together with industry-recognised certifications.

WWCC and Police Check:

Appointment to this position is dependent on obtaining a Victorian ‘employee’ Working with Children Check, and a valid Police Check within the last 12 months.
