About the role
Who are we?
Drug Awareness Rehabilitation and Management (Drug ARM) is a not for profit organisation committed to reducing harms associated with alcohol and other drug use. Drug ARM has been a specialist provider of alcohol and other drug services since 1980 and currently operates throughout Queensland and parts of New South Wales.
Our vision of flourishing peoples and communities living free from the harms of alcohol and other drugs is achieved through our commitment to delivering the highest standard of awareness, rehabilitation and management solutions.
Role Overview
“This position is an identified lived experience position. A genuine occupational requirement applies under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (QLD).” Applicants must have a lived experience of substance use and treatment in an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service.
This is a part-time role of 38 hours per fortnight. This role is based in Roma.
This role will require you to complete a Blue Card application. We recognise that lived-living experience of alcohol and other drug use, criminalisation, and rehabilitation are assets to the peer workforce, not liabilities, but may cause issues when applying for a Blue Card. Support is available if you are concerned about this process.
A Driver’s Licence is required for this role.
We are looking for:
The peer worker will have a lived experience of alcohol or other drug use and treatment in an Alcohol and Other Drug Service and is currently in recovery. The peer worker will have a willingness to share their experience in a safe and meaningful manner. They will demonstrate personal qualities of empathy and resilience appropriate to supporting day program participants with complex needs. The role includes supporting participants to engage in the day program and encouraging work on their treatment goals. This may include suggestions and strategies from the peer worker’s own experience.
The ideal candidate will maintain good relationships with stakeholders including other workers and participants in the program. The candidate should be able to work in a team as well as autonomously within their area of responsibility.
Qualifications or experience in peer work will be highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities:
Selection Criteria
Please respond to each criteria question to the best of your ability.
SC1 Demonstrated understanding of the presenting concerns and issues affecting adults accessing drug and alcohol treatment services.
SC2 Experience in delivering Peer support or ability to provide support and empathy to participants in the program in a safe manner.
SC3 Understanding of harm reduction and the range of treatment goals from abstinence to safer use.
SC4 Ability to deliver peer support groups or willingness to train in delivering groups.
SC5 Demonstrated ability to work with people from a range of backgrounds, including First Nations people.
