Switchboard Designer

Newcastle or Central Coast | Full-Time

GEM Switchboards is experiencing rapid growth and we are looking for an experienced Senior Switchboard Designer to join our team.

We are seeking an experienced designer with a strong background in switchboard design who can work independently, take ownership of their work and deliver accurate, compliant and production-ready designs.

About the Role

The Senior Switchboard Designer will be responsible for designing and overseeing switchboard projects, ensuring designs meet contract requirements, Australian Standards, client specifications and GEM quality expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Complete or oversee the design of switchboards for assigned projects

• Review scopes, drawings and technical documentation

• Ensure designs meet Australian Standards, specifications and GEM requirements

• Resolve technical queries and design issues

• Prepare designs and documentation ready for production

• Coordinate with Production to ensure clear drawings and build instructions

• Provide accurate material lists and technical information to Procurement

• Provide Project Managers with design timelines and technical milestones

• Identify design risks, long-lead items and technical constraints

• Participate in internal project meetings and design reviews

• Support quality checks, inspections and FAT processes

• Maintain accurate drawings, revisions and technical documentation

• Contribute to improvements in design standards and templates

This is a technical design role. Our Project Managers manage customer relationships and commercial matters, allowing you to focus on the design and technical requirements of each project.

About You

We are looking for someone with significant switchboard design experience who is confident taking ownership of projects and working with minimal supervision.

You will have:

• Detailed knowledge of AS 3000, AS 61439 and Service and Installation Rules

• Strong knowledge of engineering practice

• AutoCAD LT competency

• Experience with supplier software, including Galaxy and TM Designer

• Excellent planning and organisational skills

• Strong attention to detail and accountability

• The ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines

• A systematic and methodical approach to design and project delivery

• The ability to identify and resolve design risks

• A collaborative approach and strong communication skills

• A proactive approach to business and process improvement

An Electrical Engineering qualification is preferred.
