Non-Executive Director

Do you want to shape the strategic direction of an organisation with genuine national reach and influence, at a time when consumer protection matters more than ever? We are looking for a new Non-Executive Board Director (NED) to join the CHOICE Board.

CHOICE is Australia’s leading consumer advocacy group, providing information and advice free from commercial bias since 1959. About the Role

This role will work alongside the Chairs, fellow Directors, the CEO and the CHOICE Executive team to oversee CHOICE’s governance, strategy and long-term sustainability, and help ensure we deliver to our purpose. This is a voluntary position, Board-related expenses are covered but there is no remuneration attached to the role. 

As Non-Executive Board Director, you will take on the full statutory responsibilities of the role under the Corporations Act, alongside CHOICE’s Constitution and Board Charter. In practice this means:

• Safeguarding CHOCIE’s purpose and values 
• Overseeing the organisations’ financial sustainability and development 
• Approving and monitoring strategic direction 
• Managing organisation-wide risk 
• Contributing to effective board governance 
• Overseeing ESG matters
• Upholding strong corporate governance standards

About you

You have strong experience in consumer policy and campaigning, and in strategies to address the needs of communities that are at particular risk of exploitation, especially in relation to their consumer rights.

You also are able to demonstrate:

• An understanding of, or experience in, social enterprises or purpose-led organisations 
• Strong strategic judgement and the ability to apply financial and risk literacy to board-level decisions 
• Governance experience commensurate with an organisation of CHOICE’s size 
• Clear, respectful communication and collaboration style 
• Sound ethical judgement, independence of thought and freedom from conflicts of interest 
• A genuine commitment to CHOICE’S purpose and values 
• The ability to meet all legal and good character requirements to serve as a director
