CatholicCare Tasmania is the primary social services agency of the Catholic Church across Tasmania. We have 60 years’ experience delivering a wide range of services and support to improve individual, family and community wellbeing. Our services are available and open to all with a particular focus on families, young people and children.

The program aims to assist all families, couples, individuals and children, though we prioritise those most disadvantaged or at risk. The program provides counselling, group work, mediation/support for separated families, specialised family violence interventions, family law counselling, and family relationship skills and training.

Summary of Role  

Our Personal, Family and Relationship Counselling Program focuses on the individual client while maintaining a systemic, relational approach that supports improved relationships with key people in the client’s life.

As a Family and Relationship Counsellor, you will work with individuals across the lifespan with a broad range of presenting issues. This may include: providing a range of focused psychological strategies to individuals experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues; working with couples experiencing relationship issues or seeking to separate; providing parenting skills and education sessions; family counselling; working with individual children and young people; and/or timely counselling for our EAP clients.

 About You  

• Commitment to the vision, mission, and values of CatholicCare Tasmania as informed by the Archbishop’s Charter and a broad understanding of the operation of the Catholic Church in Tasmania.
• Detailed knowledge of issues impacting children, young people and their families, including family violence, mental health, substance abuse and poverty, with a minimum of three years of clinical experience.
• Demonstrated experience and training in relationship and family counselling, which may include working with children individually.
• Demonstrated experience in developing, facilitating and evaluating group work programs.
• Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team environment, and to network effectively, including strong resourcefulness and organisation skills.
