About the role
Australian Democracy Network is a young, dynamic campaign organisation dedicated to creating a healthy Australian Democracy that puts people and the planet first. We bring people and organisations together to campaign for the changes that make our democracy more fair, open, transparent and accountable.
We believe that a healthy democracy is the key to better outcomes on all the most important challenges we face, from public health to the climate crisis. We need the collective power of broad, diverse civil society alliances working together to win structural reforms that change the whole system.
At ADN, we believe that digital tools can help us connect people, share stories, and inspire action at scale. This role exists to do just that: to grow and energise our community of supporters, and make sure people-power is at the heart of our campaigns.
As our Digital Engagement Officer, you’ll be a creative engine behind how our campaigns show up online. You’ll help translate bold ideas and timely moments into social media campaigns, digital actions, emails and events that move people – whether it’s sharing a breaking news response, inviting supporters to a webinar, or building energy for a national day of action. You’ll work closely with our campaigns and engagement team to shape messages that cut through, spark interest, and build momentum.
You don’t need to be a policy expert, but you’ll be someone who can grasp the heart of an issue quickly and communicate it in ways that are clear, compelling, and community-minded. You’ll also bring a good sense of how digital channels work together to create a strong supporter experience, from social media to email, to online events and beyond.
Your work will help build a stronger, more connected movement of people who are ready to stand up for democracy. By making our campaigns more accessible, visible and participatory online, you’ll help ADN reach new audiences, deepen engagement with our existing base, and strengthen the collective power we need to win long-term change.
This role is available full time or at 0.8 FTE. We work remotely with shared office space available in Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra.
You’re a strong communicator who is committed to building engagement, people power, and creating real change. You may have experience in campaigning, digital communications, or community organising, but more importantly, you understand how digital tools can help mobilise people, shift public conversations, and build lasting movements.
You’ve had a previous role where digital outreach, campaigning, or content creation were key parts of your work. That might be in a not-for-profit, a grassroots group, political office, union, or community organisation. Or you might be a digital specialist looking to move to a different sector where you can align your skills with your values.
Above all, you bring curiosity, initiative and a desire to contribute to a growing team making a meaningful impact.
Studies have shown that people from underrepresented backgrounds, including Aboriginal, Torres Strait and Pacific Islander peoples, People of Colour, women, non-binary and gender diverse people, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people living with a disability, often hesitate to apply if they don’t meet every single requirement. We encourage you to apply even if you’re not sure you meet every part of the criteria. We’re excited to learn how your unique experience and perspective can contribute to our team.

To be eligible, you must have the right to live and work in Australia.
