Family Lived Experience Lead - Community Youth Forensic Mental Health Service

The Department

Bayside Health (Alfred Care Group) are expanding the Community Youth Forensic Mental Health Service (CFYMHS).

The expanded service will extend existing consultation services as well as provide direct service to children and young adults in Eastern Victoria. The program will focus on early intervention with children and young people with offending behaviours to divert and enable alternative life trajectories. The team will also work with interagency care teams, families and networks to better co-ordinate and address causal factors that lead to offending behaviour. The team will be co-located with the ICYAMHWS service at Moorabbin and some outreach travel to locations across Eastern Victoria, both metropolitan and rural will be required.

Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, and Lived Experience Family Specialist roles are being recruited to ensure development of multidisciplinary community based forensic mental health services for children and youth.

The Role

In this role, you will shape the role of Family Lived Experience in the youth forensic mental health sector. Responsive secondary consultation and advocacy will also be offered via a range of methods found to be successful in other consultation programs. 

This position will expand roles for Lived Experience staff to advocate for the needs of support networks and build skills of clinicians and workers to better understand and where possible address needs of caregivers through peer support, service development, education, and/or primary and secondary consultation.

Experience and Qualifications Required

• Lived experience as a family member or significant other of a child or young person with mental health challenges (ideally a young person with forensic issues) is essential
• Previous experience in a designated senior family/carer lived experience role is essential
• Bachelor qualification and/or Relevant training in family/carer lived experience practice is desirable
• Australian working rights
• Current Influenza vaccination
• Be willing to complete a background check & have a satisfactory Working with Children Check
