Workplace Organiser

Unions Tasmania is the peak body for trade unions in Tasmania. For over 140 years, we have been giving a voice to working Tasmanians and their families. We represent approximately 50,000 union members, across the private and public sector, in workplaces big and small.

We are seeking an energetic and relationship-focused Workplace Organiser to recruit and support participating workplaces across Tasmania to the next stage of the Gender Equity Works project.

This is an active workplace organising and engagement role. Your primary focus will be to identify, recruit and support employers, unions, and workers to participate in the Gender Equity Works project.

You will work directly with employers, workers, unions and industry stakeholders to build support for the project and guide participating workplaces through a practical program of workplace assessment, training, action planning and implementation.

You will be confident approaching and engaging new workplaces, building trusted relationships and helping people move from interest and conversation to practical action.

As the primary point of contact for participating workplaces, you will maintain strong relationships throughout their involvement in the project and help build a statewide network of organisations committed to improving gender equity in Tasmanian workplaces.

This is a varied role involving workplace visits, relationship building, presentations, facilitation and project coordination. Regular travel throughout Tasmania will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

-    Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, workers, unions and industry stakeholders

-    Proactively identify and recruit workplaces to participate in the project

-    Promote the project and clearly communicate its benefits and opportunities to prospective participants

-    Deliver project information sessions, presentations and briefings

-    Support participating workplaces to complete gender equity assessments and identify areas for improvement

-    Facilitate workplace action planning and support the implementation of practical initiatives

-    Monitor workplace engagement and progress and identify where additional support is needed

-    Maintain accurate records of workplace engagement, participation and outcomes

-    Work collaboratively with the Gender Equity Works project team to ensure participating workplaces receive effective and timely support

-    Support the establishment and growth of the Tasmania Women in Trades and Industry Network

You will have:

-    A commitment to union values and a passion for worker’s rights, workplace equality and social justice

-    Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships with diverse stakeholders

-    Confidence initiating conversations and engaging new organisations and stakeholders

-    Strong communication and facilitation skills

-    The ability to influence, motivate and gain buy-in from people with different perspectives and priorities

-    Experience in workplace engagement, organising, community development, stakeholder engagement, project delivery or a related field

-    Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

-    Excellent written and verbal communication skills

-    Current driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout Tasmania

We are looking for someone who can build trust, engage people from diverse backgrounds and work confidently across different industries and workplace settings. This may suit you if you have experience in:

-    Union organising

-    Community organising or community development

-    Stakeholder or industry engagement

-    Not-for-profit or progressive member-based organisation

-    Workforce development

-    Training, education or facilitation

-    Male-dominated industries such as construction, manufacturing, transport, energy or trades

-    Facilitating group discussions, workshops or consultation processes
