About the role
CNC Machine Setter Operator
Are you looking for a change from the standard CNC machining position that you have been performing for a few years now?
Are you looking to use your skills in a new environment, on Complex Products, with Cutting Edge Equipment, with Modern Manufacturing systems?
Do you want to challenge yourself, and work on the most high-end, technically complex programs on the market?
Ferra Engineering is a market leading manufacturing organisation servicing the aerospace industry.
We are a well-established Manufacturing Company located in Brisbane that specialises in the production of metallic aerospace components and mechanical systems. We invest heavily in modern equipment, and work in a clean environment, to make some of the most challenging and complex aerospace components on the market today. We work nearly exclusively with Digital Product, using modern manufacturing systems, processes, and CAD models to manufacture and inspect parts.
We work with partners like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, Parker Aerospace, and many others to manufacture products for the F-35 Lightning II, MQ-28 Ghost Bat, and many other programs.
We have several positions available to support expansion of those programs on the Afternoon and Nightshifts within the Machining department. We would love to hear from applicants with experience with aerospace quality systems, who has worked on 5 Axis machines, or those who want to transition into an aerospace / defence environment.
Our renumeration system is based on the skills you have. The more machines you can run well, the more we will pay you. So, if your new to the trade, have only run a single machine type, there’s plenty of opportunity for you to grow, with pay increases based on number of machines you have mastered, as well as the opportunity to recognise the other skills, such as CNC programming (Mastercam or Catia) and inspection. Shift loading is applied on top of your skilled rate.
We can support your trade knowledge with the variety of CNC Machines, including Mazak, DMG, Doosan, Makino, Breton, and Okuma. Our controllers include Heidenhain, Celos, Fanuc, Makino Pro 3 / 6 and others. There’s plenty of opportunity to run something you know as well as to learn something new.
We also run around the clock, with opportunities to adjust your shifts as circumstances and production requirements allow and we pride ourselves on being flexible with our team.
We are looking for people to join our team, who are proud to produce Australian made aviation products, and who can take pride in their work when they see a jet fly by.
Responsibilities and duties will include:
Manufacture components to drawings and instructions as detailed on work orders using Computer Numerical Control Machines (CNC)

Measure completed work using handheld gauges to ensure components conforms to shop and/or customer drawings
Use electronic workstations to log on and off tasks to cost centres as they are performed
Use of hand tools and equipment associated with the performance of work duties
Carry out Operator maintenance on machinery as required.
Work as part of the team to investigate machining defects and work to prevent re-occurrence
The ideal candidate will have:
Good understanding of manufacturing processes
Excellent attention to detail
