Senior Policy Officer

THE ROLE

The Equality Policy team works across the department and the broader Victorian government and with key stakeholders to develop and deliver high quality strategic advice and support with a focus on the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex and queer (LGBTIQA+) communities.

The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter with a good understanding of government processes and an ability to work in a complex, sensitive and fast paced environment, and demonstrate strong policy, analytical and communication skills coupled with an ability to influence stakeholders and work effectively in a team environment.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

• Provide analysis and expert advice to the Minister for Equality, and senior executives on a wide range of matters of strategic and/or critical impact on policy development in relation to LGBTIQA+ communities. This includes analysing and critically evaluating information and proactively identifying potential implications and risks of proposed policy options.
• Manage and contribute to strategic research projects, consultations and policy analyses relating to the coordination and implementation of government policy.
• Initiate and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders to drive forward government policy and priorities. This includes managing and maintaining close liaison and effective relationships with other branches within DFFH, other government departments and non-government organisations, including representation on inter-agency committees and task forces.
