Our Group operates across:
Beston Plumbing – Residential and construction plumbing
Drainage – Residential drainage and associated works
HVAC – Heating, cooling and mechanical plumbing
Fast Solar – Solar electrical and renewable energy installations
With a large and diverse workforce consisting of qualified tradespeople, apprentices, supervisors, operational leaders and office-based employees, we are looking for an experienced HR Officer to join our team.
The position will provide HR support across the wider Beston Group and will involve working across our Hallam and Tullamarine locations, as well as engaging with our operational teams in the field when required.
This is a hands-on HR position suited to someone who enjoys working directly with employees and managers and is comfortable operating in a fast-paced construction and trades environment.
The Role
Reporting to senior management, the HR Officer will support the day-to-day HR function across Beston Group.
The successful candidate will bring 5–8 years of HR experience, with strong capability in employee relations, conflict resolution, contract negotiation, workplace investigations, counselling and employee support, injury and claims management, case management, OHS and workplace training.
You will work closely with management, supervisors and employees across our Hallam and Tullamarine operations to ensure workplace matters are handled professionally, fairly and consistently.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Conflict Resolution
Provide practical HR advice and support to managers, supervisors and employees.
Manage workplace conflicts, grievances and employee concerns.
Facilitate difficult conversations and conflict resolution meetings.
Provide appropriate counselling and employee support.
Assist managers with performance management and employee development.
Manage disciplinary processes, warnings and Performance Improvement Plans.
Conduct and document workplace investigations where required.
Support managers in addressing behavioural, attendance and performance concerns.
Maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive employee matters.
Contracts, Employment Conditions & HR Compliance
Prepare, review and negotiate employment contracts and employment conditions.
Assist with remuneration reviews and changes to employment arrangements.
Provide advice regarding employment conditions, policies and workplace obligations.
Maintain accurate employment documentation and employee records.
Assist management with interpretation of applicable Awards, legislation and employment requirements.
Ensure HR practices remain consistent, documented and compliant.
Support onboarding, probation reviews, role changes, promotions and employee exits.
Claims, Injury & Case Management
Manage workplace injury and employee case management from initial notification through to resolution.
Coordinate Return to Work processes and suitable duties arrangements.
Liaise with employees, managers, supervisors, insurers, medical practitioners and rehabilitation providers.
Maintain accurate case notes, documentation and follow-up actions.
Assist with WorkCover and workplace injury claims.
Monitor employee recovery and Return to Work progress.
Support employees experiencing workplace or personal issues affecting their ability to perform their role.
Identify complex or high-risk cases and escalate matters appropriately.
OHS & Workplace Safety
Working alongside operational management and safety personnel, the HR Officer will assist with the continued development of Beston Group's safety culture.
Responsibilities include:
Support compliance with Victorian OHS legislation and company safety requirements.
Assist with workplace incident and injury investigations.
Participate in OHS meetings and safety initiatives.
Assist with hazard and risk management processes.
Review trends relating to incidents, injuries and employee safety concerns.
Support supervisors and managers with their OHS responsibilities.
Assist with the development and review of OHS policies and procedures.
Work collaboratively with operational teams across Hallam, Tullamarine and active sites to improve safety behaviours and accountability.
OHS Training & Employee Development
A key component of the position will be helping Beston Group improve safety knowledge and capability across its workforce.
You will:
Assist in developing and delivering OHS training for employees and supervisors.
Conduct or coordinate safety inductions and refresher training.
Assist with toolbox talks and safety communications.
Train supervisors and managers in incident reporting, injury management and OHS responsibilities.
Support training relating to workplace behaviour, conflict management and employee relations.
Identify training gaps through incidents, employee feedback and performance reviews.
Maintain training records and assist with competency tracking.
Work with operational leaders to develop practical training suitable for tradespeople and apprentices.
About You
We are looking for someone who can build strong relationships across all levels of the business — from apprentices and tradespeople through to supervisors, department heads and senior management.
You will ideally have:
5–8 years' experience in Human Resources or Employee Relations.
Relevant qualification in Human Resources, Business, Employment Relations or a related discipline.
Strong experience in contract negotiation and employment contracts.
Demonstrated experience managing workplace conflict and conflict resolution.
Experience providing employee counselling and support.
Strong claims management and case management experience.
Experience with workplace injuries and Return to Work processes.
Strong understanding of OHS requirements and workplace safety.
Experience developing or delivering OHS training.
Experience managing performance and disciplinary matters.
Strong written documentation and record-keeping skills.
Confidence dealing with difficult or sensitive workplace situations.
Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
Ability to balance employee welfare with operational and commercial requirements.
Ability to work independently and make sound HR recommendations to management.
Ability and willingness to work across both our Hallam and Tullamarine locations as required.
Experience within construction, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, solar, civil, manufacturing or another trade-based workforce will be highly regarded.
What We're Looking For
This position is suited to an HR professional who wants to be involved in the business rather than operating purely from behind a desk.
Beston Group is looking for someone who is:
Practical – able to provide HR solutions that work in a fast-moving operational environment.
Approachable – someone employees feel comfortable speaking with.
Confident – able to have difficult conversations and challenge decisions professionally when required.
Fair and Consistent – capable of balancing the needs of employees with the requirements of the business.
Safety Focused – understands that OHS, employee wellbeing and HR are closely connected within a trade-based workforce.
Organised – capable of managing multiple employee cases, claims, investigations and HR priorities at the same time.
Proactive – identifies potential employee, cultural or safety issues before they become larger problems.
Why Join Beston Group?
This is an opportunity to take on a broad HR position within a growing multi-trade organisation with established operations across Hallam and Tullamarine.
Rather than focusing on one narrow area of HR, you will have exposure to the complete employee lifecycle while working across Plumbing, Drainage, HVAC and Solar Electrical operations.
You will have the opportunity to:
Work directly with senior management and operational leaders.
Support employees across our Hallam and Tullamarine operations.
Support a diverse trade and apprentice workforce.
Take ownership of employee relations and case management matters.
Develop and improve HR and OHS processes.
Deliver meaningful workplace and safety training.

Contribute to Beston Group's continued growth and workplace culture.
