About the role
We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team on a casual or contractor basis in Hunter Region, NSW. This is a flexible position offering the opportunity to work with diverse client populations in a supportive healthcare environment. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in assessing, planning, and implementing individualised therapeutic interventions to help clients regain independence, improve functional capacity, and enhance their quality of life. This position offers flexibility in scheduling, making it ideal for professionals seeking part-time or variable hour arrangements.
Key responsibilities
Conducting comprehensive occupational therapy assessments and functional evaluations for clients with varying conditions and presentations
Developing and implementing individualised treatment plans based on client goals, needs, and evidence-based practice
Providing direct occupational therapy interventions including activities of daily living (ADL) training, cognitive rehabilitation, mobility assistance, and adaptive strategies
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including physiotherapists, medical professionals, and support staff to ensure coordinated care
Educating clients and their families on self-management strategies, home modifications, and adaptive equipment recommendations
Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation, progress notes, and treatment records in compliance with regulatory standards
Liaising with external providers, GPs, and community services to support holistic client outcomes
Participating in professional development and staying current with best practices in occupational therapy
What we're looking for
Current registration with AHPRA as an Occupational Therapist
Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution
Demonstrated experience in occupational therapy practice, particularly in rehabilitation, disability support, or community health settings
Strong assessment and clinical reasoning skills with the ability to develop effective treatment plans
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse client populations
Proficiency in documentation and familiarity with electronic health records systems
Knowledge of relevant legislation including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and other funding models
Current First Aid certification and CPR qualification
Working with Children Check clearance (or willingness to obtain if required)
Flexibility and reliability in managing variable working hours as a casual or contractor
A genuine commitment to client-centred care and professional excellence
Preferred experience
Experience working with clients across the lifespan (paediatric to aged care populations)
Familiarity with NDIS assessment and planning processes
Exposure to specialised areas such as hand therapy, mental health, or neurological rehabilitation
Experience in regional or rural healthcare settings
