About the role
The Role
As our APS 6 Pricing and Cost Analysis Officer, you will provide critical financial management and budget support across two capability sustainment programs (Air Traffic Management and Air Battlespace Management). Your role will support a range of key planning and reporting activities, including contributing to the Defence Management and Financial Plan, System Development Master Plan assessments, transition into service planning, in-year budget management and ongoing capability sustainment reporting.
You will work with a dedicated team responsible for overseeing contracted financial arrangements of the Surveillance and Control System Program Office (S&CSPO). In collaboration with industry partners and internal stakeholders, you will monitor performance against approved budgets.
Your role will involve undertaking month-end budget management activities, including accrual processing, forecasting, variance analysis, and budget reporting to support informed decision making and effective budget management.
Working in partnership with Product Managers, you will provide timely budget reporting and strategic advice on activities that may be accelerated, adjusted or deferred to achieve forecast budget outcomes. You will also support the management of budget achievement risks, including price variation, foreign exchange fluctuations and other factors that may impact program delivery and budget performance.
You will play a key role in supporting informed decision making and maintaining effective budget governance across complex capability programs. The role is responsible for ensuring resources are managed efficiently and responsibly - contributing to the successful delivery of Defence capability outcomes and strategic objectives.
About our Team
You will be part of a team located at RAAF Base Williamtown, responsible for overseeing contractual financial arrangements across the Surveillance and Control Systems Program Office (S&CSPO). You will enjoy the opportunity to work in a supportive and trusted environment that values both individual wellbeing and organisational outcomes. Our team is committed to fostering a positive workplace culture through regular wellbeing walks, team morning teas, social club activities, and ongoing learning and development opportunities. We recognise the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance while supporting professional growth and delivering meaningful outcomes.
As part of the S&CSPO team, you will find yourself working in one of Australia's premier tourist destinations, the Hunter Valley. With idyllic surf beaches in Port Stephens and Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Hunter wine region, hiking trails and Barrington tops are all within an hour of the Base.
Our Ideal Candidate
You are a motivated and analytical professional with experience in financial management, budgeting and supporting complex programs. You thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoy working with data and financial information, and have a strong ability to translate complex information into meaningful insights. Your sound judgement, attention to detail and ability to provide practical advice will enable you to support effective decision making and contribute to the successful delivery of Defence capability outcomes.
You will possess strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, enabling you to build and maintain effective working relationships with Product Managers, industry partners and a range of internal and external stakeholders. You are highly organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities while delivering quality outcomes.
