Environmental and Social Performance Manager Reporting to: Managing DirectorEngagement: Contract role (initial 12-month contract with the possibility of extension)Location: Kriva Palanka and Skopje, North MacedoniaWork arrangements: Initially based primarily in Kriva Palanka, with regular attendance at the Krstov Dol project site and in Skopje About PELA GlobalPela Global Limited is an Australian critical and precious metals company focused on the responsible development of mineral resources within south-eastern Europe’s Tethyan Metallogenic Belt. PELA is advancing the proposed restart of the historic Krstov Dol antimony mine in North Macedonia. As the project progresses through resource validation, environmental and social assessment, permitting, financing and development, PELA is seeking an experienced Environmental and Social Performance Manager to lead the Company’s environmental and social programme and help establish the foundations for a responsible, internationally aligned mining operation. Role summaryThe Environmental and Social Performance Manager will lead PELA’s environmental and social performance function, encompassing environmental and social impact assessment, management systems, community relations, stakeholder engagement and compliance with applicable national and international lender requirements. The role will serve as the principal project-level interface between PELA and local communities, municipalities, landowners and relevant civil society organisations. It will also coordinate the environmental and social systems, studies and workstreams required to support project development, permitting and financing. Working closely with PELA management, Macedonian and international consultants, project partners and other stakeholders, the successful candidate will play a central role in developing and implementing the project’s Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), Stakeholder Engagement Plan, community initiatives and lender-compliance processes. Key responsibilitiesLead the development and coordination of the ESIA, ensuring that local studies and inputs are integrated into a coherent assessment that meets North Macedonian requirements and applicable international lender standards.Act as the principal project-level interface between PELA, Macedonian consultants and international environmental and social advisers.Coordinate consultant scopes, deliverables, information flows and timelines, and facilitate the resolution of gaps or inconsistencies between workstreams.Support the planning and delivery of environmental and social baseline studies and the identification and assessment of project risks and impacts.Develop and maintain PELA’s Environmental and Social Management System and associated management plans, procedures and records.Monitor environmental and social performance, maintain compliance records and track agreed corrective actions.Support compliance with the IFC Performance Standards, requirements of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and other applicable international lender standards.Lead community relations and stakeholder engagement, including implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Stakeholder Engagement Plan.Support land-access processes and maintain accurate records of consultations, agreements, commitments and stakeholder concerns.Establish and manage the project-level grievance mechanism, ensuring that grievances are recorded, investigated and addressed appropriately.Identify and develop constructive partnerships with local authorities, communities and relevant organisations.Report regularly to the Managing Director and management on environmental, social and community performance, material risks, emerging issues, commitments and corrective actions. Experience and qualificationsAt least seven years’ relevant experience in mining, infrastructure, energy or other major projects.Demonstrated experience in community relations and stakeholder engagement.Strong knowledge of North Macedonian and relevant EU environmental and social legislation, permitting requirements and regulatory processes.Experience developing or coordinating ESIAs, environmental and social management systems or lender environmental and social requirements.Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants and integrating separate technical workstreams and deliverables.Experience with land access, grievance mechanisms or community-development initiatives is desirable.Familiarity with the IFC Performance Standards and the environmental and social requirements of DFC, EBRD, EIB or comparable international financing institutions is desirable.Fluency in spoken and written Macedonian, together with strong professional working proficiency in English.Strong communication, report-writing, judgement, organisational and relationship-building skills.A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, social science, environmental engineering or a related discipline is desirable. The role would suit someone who can work confidently with communities, government stakeholders, consultants, lenders and company management, and who is motivated to help build the environmental and social foundations for a responsible mining operation.
