Senior Public Practice Accountant

About the role

We're looking for an experienced Senior Accountant with SMSF and ITR expertise to join our Australian team. You'll be confident working across a portfolio of clients spanning superannuation funds, individual and business tax returns, and broader compliance work. This is a technical, client-facing role for someone who's just as comfortable working through a client's financials and compliance obligations as they are explaining the outcome to a client in plain English.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing and reviewing SMSF financial statements, annual returns, and audits liaison

• Preparing and reviewing individual and business income tax returns, ensuring compliance with current tax laws and regulations

• Advising clients on superannuation contribution caps, pension standards, and compliance obligations

• Providing exceptional service to a wide range of clients, including proactive communication and practical advice

• Dealing with the ATO and ASIC on behalf of clients

• Helping shape the Beany product by flagging common issues so we can improve our systems, knowledge base, and proactive client communications

• Building and maintaining strong client relationships

About you

• CA/CPA/IPA qualified

• Minimum 5 years' practice experience at senior accountant level, with SMSF/superannuation fund experience

• Strong income tax return experience across individuals, trusts, companies, and SMSFs

• Confident with Xero and comfortable working across multiple systems

• Sound knowledge of AU business legislation, particularly ASIC and ATO requirements

• High empathy and communication skills, both written and verbal

• Digitally savvy, with a progressive attitude toward client service

• Strong problem-solving and time management skills

• Team player with a positive, can-do attitude

A note on the contract: you must be eligible to work in New Zealand or Australia. Full-time and part-time options are being considered for this open-ended contracting position. We are looking for a commitment of at least 20 hours a week. Please only apply if you can genuinely commit to that minimum.
