About the Role:
This role is central to the final and most visible stage of the restoration process. As a Vehicle Painter, you will be entrusted with transforming prepared vehicle bodies with a flawless, factory-quality finish. You will be responsible for colour matching, application, and finishing, ensuring the final product not only meets but exceeds customer expectations. This position requires an artist's eye for detail and a technician's understanding of modern refinishing systems.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation & Masking
• Identify and remove rough spots, imperfections, and old paint from vehicle panels using hand tools and power sanders.
• Mask off areas not requiring paint with precision tape and paper to ensure clean, sharp lines and protect surrounding components.
Paint Matching & Mixing
• Colour match and blend paints to achieve exact shade matches, including metallic and pearl finishes, and select pre-mixed paints as required.
• Adjust tint formulas and test spray-outs to guarantee seamless integration with existing vehicle paintwork.
Application & Finishing
• Apply primer, basecoat, and clearcoat using spray-guns, carefully sanding between coats for a smooth, defect-free surface.
• Perform touch-up repairs, then polish and wax completed paintwork to restore gloss and depth.
Final Detailing & Protection
• Remove masking materials, then wax and polish finished panels to a high luster.
• Treat vehicles with rust-proofing chemicals and apply protective coatings as needed.
Specialist Work
• Paint custom signs, graphics, and artwork directly onto vehicles when required.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
• A formal trade qualification in Vehicle Painting / Spray Painting or equivalent demonstrated experience or relevant qualification.
• A minimum of 1 year of proven experience as a Vehicle Painter within a professional automotive refinishing environment or similar.
• Extensive experience with modern water-based paint systems and the application processes for a wide range of basecoat/clearcoat products.
• A keen eye for colour and an exceptional level of attention to detail, with a passion for delivering a perfect finish every time.
• The ability to work efficiently both autonomously and as a collaborative member of a close-knit team.
• A strong understanding and commitment to adhering to Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) procedures, particularly regarding fume extraction and the handling of hazardous materials.
• A current driver's license.
If you are a skilled Vehicle Painter who takes pride in producing exceptional work and wants to contribute to a business with an outstanding reputation, we encourage you to apply.
