Who We Are

The Roy Fagan Centre (RFC) is Tasmania’s statewide specialised inpatient mental health facility for older persons, and part of Older Person’s Mental Health Service (OPMHS). We provide compassionate, person-centred care to individuals experiencing acute mental ill health, neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia, and complex psychiatric conditions. Our multidisciplinary team works across four purpose-built units, each designed to support dignity, safety, and therapeutic engagement.

Our patients are older Tasmanians age 65+, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50+, who require specialised mental health support. We also support individuals with young-onset neurodegenerative conditions.

The Role

As an Occupational Therapist at Roy Fagan Centre, you will be part of Tasmania's specialist statewide Older Persons Mental Health Service, working with older people experiencing mental illness, dementia, and complex behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). As a valued member of a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan and deliver person-centred occupational therapy interventions that support consumers to maximise independence, engagement, function, and quality of life. You will work closely with consumers, families, carers and the broader clinical team to develop meaningful goals and therapeutic strategies that enhance wellbeing and support recovery wherever possible.

This role offers a unique opportunity to develop specialist skills in aged mental health, dementia care, and behavioural support within a highly supportive and experienced clinical environment. You will contribute to multidisciplinary assessment, treatment planning, quality improvement activities, student supervision, and service development initiatives while promoting contemporary, evidence-based occupational therapy practice. Details of appointment

Permanent part time, day worker position, working 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible;

and

Fixed term part time, day worker position, working 15.2 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 30 June 2027.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$81,614 to $115,529 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

• Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No.2 of 2025

Salary Packaging 

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. 

Allowances 

• Please note that access to salaries beyond $115,529 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme 

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

• Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Benefits available to eligible candidates 

• Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.

Eligibility

• Registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
• Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Occupational Board of Australia

• Current Driver’s Licence

Position Features: Home visits and travel between sites in North/Northwest may be required Shift work, extended hours and/or weekend work may be required.
