The Epilepsy Foundation is seeking a compassionate and motivated Epilepsy Advisor to join our Comprehensive Support Services team. In this rewarding role, you will use your skills and expertise to provide practical support, education, and guidance to people living with epilepsy, helping them navigate challenges, make informed choices and participate more fully in everyday life.
The Epilepsy Foundation supports people living with epilepsy to live safer, more connected lives. We provide evidence-based information, education, and support across health, education, disability, workplaces, and aged care settings. Through our work, we help people understand and manage epilepsy, advocate for their needs, navigate services, and build the confidence to participate fully in their communities. We are also committed to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting understanding and inclusion across the community
About the RoleAs an Epilepsy Advisor, you'll work directly with people living with epilepsy and their families, providing person-centred support tailored to their individual goals and circumstances.
You'll manage a diverse caseload, including people with complex support needs, helping them better understand epilepsy, develop self-management skills, access appropriate services, and build confidence in everyday life.
No two days are the same. Alongside client support, you'll contribute to our information line, provide one-off support and guidance to callers, facilitate workshops, and deliver education and training to individuals, families, schools, workplaces, and support services.
This is a unique opportunity to combine your professional skills with meaningful community impact while developing specialist knowledge in epilepsy.
What You'll Be DoingProviding information, education, and support using a person-centred and strengths-based approach
Managing a caseload, including clients with complex support needs
Conducting needs assessments and supporting clients to achieve their goals
Building self-management and self-advocacy skills
Assisting clients to connect with relevant services and community supports
Developing collaborative relationships with healthcare providers and community organisations
Delivering epilepsy education and training sessions
Facilitating workshops and group programs for people living with epilepsy and their families
Maintaining accurate and timely records
We're looking for someone who is empathetic, organised, and passionate about supporting people to thrive.
You will bring:
Qualifications and professional experience in a health, welfare, disability, community services, or related field
Experience providing information, education, or support to individuals and families
A person-centred, strengths-based approach to supporting self-management
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
The ability to engage effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences
Experience collaborating with healthcare providers, community organisations, and other stakeholders
Confidence supporting people via phone and videoconference
Strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team
A willingness to learn about epilepsy and develop specialist knowledge
Previous knowledge of epilepsy is not essential. We will support you to develop your knowledge and confidence.
