The Indian Ocean Territories Administration (IOTA) is currently seeking a motivated, professional and suitably qualified person to join our team as the Director of Nursing and Community Health (DONCH) within the Indian Ocean Territories Health Service (IOTHS) based on Christmas Island.

The IOTHS delivers a primary and acute health care service in two of Australia’s most remote and spectacular settings – Christmas Island (CI) and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands (CKI). The IOTHS includes a 24-hour eight bed hospital and primary care facility on CI and clinics on Home Island and West Island in the CKI. The IOTHS is committed to “Working with our communities to keep us healthy for the whole of our lives”.

About the Role

The key responsibilities of the Director of Nursing and Community Health position includes:

• Leading and managing the nursing, community, and primary health care workforce within the IOTHS, ensuring responsible, efficient and effective management of human, physical, financial and systems resources,
• Providing clinical expertise and support to staff, ensuring participation in, and progression of, quality improvement activities and promotion of staff development,
• Overseeing staffing levels and effectively and efficiently allocate resources to ensure delivery of safe and high quality acute, community, and primary health care services across the IOT communities,
• Contributing to planning, coordination and formulation of health care policies that support professional decision making in alignment with professional standards and frameworks,
• Leading and supporting a culture of quality service, patient safety and continuous improvement.

About You

To be considered, applicants must possess:

• Evidence of continued and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse
• Post graduate qualification in Nursing, Health Management, leadership or related discipline
• Valid Western Australian Working with Children Check
• Knowledge and experience in accreditation processes, strategic planning, and maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards
• Senior leadership experience leading and managing multi discipline teams in community, and primary health care

• Base salary of $150,714* per annum, plus
• Employer contribution to superannuation at 16% of base salary, plus
• District Allowance starting from $472.37 per fortnight in addition to base salary, plus

• Annual return airfares assistant to Perth for yourself and eligible dependents, plus
• Relocation assistance including packing, door-to-door delivery and storage will be provided if relocating to the Indian Ocean Territories, plus
• Heavily subsidised housing and vehicle relocated or provided, depending on availability, if relocating to the Indian Ocean Territories.

*Base salary of $166,147 at the commencement of the Indian Ocean Territories (Registered Nurse) Enterprise Agreement 2026.
