About the role
Allegro Energy is looking for a hands-on finance professional to join our growing business as our first Financial Controller. This is a four-day-per-week position.
Reporting to the CEO, this is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad finance function and play an important role in developing the financial processes, systems and controls Allegro needs as the business grows.
You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day finance function, including financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow and compliance, while providing practical financial support and insight to the CEO and leadership team.
The role also offers exposure to government grants and R&D funding, financial modelling, capital raising and investor due diligence. It would suit someone who enjoys being hands-on and close to the detail, while looking for the opportunity to broaden their experience and take greater ownership of a finance function.
Your responsibilities will include:
managing the day-to-day financial operations of the business
preparing monthly management accounts, financial reports and Board reporting
coordinating month-end and year-end reporting, including statutory financial statements
managing the annual external audit and working with external accountants and auditors
leading annual budgeting and regular financial forecasting
managing cash flow forecasts and monitoring working capital
analysing financial performance and providing practical insights to support business decisions
preparing financial models and analysis to support operational and commercial initiatives
supporting project costing, pricing and commercial decision-making
supporting capital raising and funding activities through financial information, modelling and due diligence
managing the financial requirements of government grants and externally funded programs
coordinating the R&D Tax Incentive process with external advisers
overseeing taxation and statutory compliance requirements
maintaining appropriate financial controls, policies and processes
maintaining and improving Xero and associated finance systems
identifying opportunities to streamline finance processes as the business grows
working with leaders across the business to support financial understanding and budget accountability.
You’ll be a qualified finance professional with solid foundations across financial reporting, compliance, budgeting and forecasting, and ready to take broad ownership within a growing business.
We’re looking for:
CA or CPA qualification
at least five years’ relevant finance experience, including experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or equivalent senior finance role
experience within a small to medium-sized business, start-up or high-growth environment
strong financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management experience
experience with statutory compliance, taxation and external audits
experience with government grants, funding acquittals and/or research funding programs
advanced Microsoft Excel skills
strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
Experience with Xero, the R&D Tax Incentive, finance systems and process improvement, or within technology, clean energy, engineering or advanced manufacturing would be highly regarded.
You’ll be proactive and hands-on, with sound commercial judgement and strong attention to detail. Just as importantly, you’ll be comfortable working in an evolving environment, taking ownership and building trusted relationships across the business.
