Job Description
Play a pivotal role in setting the news agenda for one of Australia’s biggest websites, nine.com.au. As a senior reporter, you will chase the best national news stories, drive the national news agenda and shape stories across key rounds including crime, court, politics and finance.
You will come armed with an extensive contact book and have experience in on-field and court reporting. The daily news cycle can be chaotic, frenetic and fast-paced. We want somebody who can stay calm under pressure but still balance speed with accuracy and inspire the team through their energy, enthusiasm and expertise.
Day to day you will:
Chase the biggest stories of the day
Break exclusive and original news stories that mould the news agenda
Write engaging and compelling copy
Maintain a national contact book
Cover the country’s biggest court cases
Work with the deputy editor to produce hard-hitting content which is ready to deploy when it will have the highest impact
Lead by example while mentoring and motivating junior news reporters
What you’ll bring:
Substantial experience in news reporting
Excellent communication skills
An understanding of the digital landscape
An impressive contact book
Strong writing skills
Sharp investigative skill and a nose for news.
Sound understanding of Australian media law
Capability to produce sharp, insightful commentary and analysis.
