Racing NSW is the statutory body for thoroughbred horse racing in NSW and owns a number of properties across the state as part of its Equine Welfare Program. Our Capertee property is used for retraining and rehoming thoroughbred horses after their racing careers and includes 2,600 acres of paddocks and equine infrastructure.
We are seeking a capable farm hand to join the team at Bandanora. Reporting directly to the Property Manager, this hands-on role focuses on general farm maintenance, property upkeep, feeding and caring for horses. The option is also available to retrain and ride thoroughbreds, subject to candidate and time permitting.
Key Responsibilities
The Farm Hand / Stablehand role is responsible for:
• Assisting with general farm maintenance and basic property upkeep
• Providing daily feeding, grooming and general care
• Safe handling of horses including catching, leading, rugging and turnout
• Monitoring horse health and reporting concerns promptly
• Assisting with farrier and veterinary visits
• Cleaning and maintenance of stables, yards and work areas
• Maintaining tack and equipment in good condition
• Upholding best practice equine welfare standards at all times
• Ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements
Skills & Experience
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
• Willingness to assist with property and farm maintenance tasks
• Sound understanding of equine behaviour and welfare
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
• A proactive, ‘can do’ attitude and willingness to work outdoors
• Good communication skills and attention to detail
Desirable Qualifications
• Experience in caring for horses
• Experience operating farm machinery
