Sweet Mahal is a vibrant Indian restaurant in Amaroo, known for authentic flavours, fresh ingredients and a welcoming dining experience. Our menu brings together classic curries, tandoori favourites and creative dishes inspired by India’s diverse culinary traditions. We are seeking a skilled Chef who takes pride in quality, consistency and teamwork.

The opportunity

In this hands-on role, you will help shape our menu, lead day-to-day food preparation and uphold high standards from the kitchen to the plate. You will work closely with management and the wider restaurant team to deliver an excellent experience for every guest.

Job Duties:

• Plan and develop menus, taking customer preferences and dietary requirements into account.
• Estimate food and labour costs, manage ingredient requirements and support the ordering of supplies.
• Prepare and cook meals to a consistently high standard.
• Monitor the quality of dishes throughout preparation, cooking and presentation.
• Coordinate kitchen workflow and food preparation in a busy restaurant environment.
• Demonstrate cooking techniques and guide team members in effective preparation methods.
• Work with managers, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff on food preparation and service matters.
• Maintain and enforce food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness standards.
• Support staff recruitment and training when required.
• Assist with the safe freezing and preservation of food where needed.

What you’ll bring

• Relevant qualifications in hospitality and commercial cookery.
• At least 3 years’ experience as a Chef or in a comparable role.
• Sound knowledge of a range of cooking techniques, ingredients and cuisines.
• The ability to plan and execute menus while considering dietary needs and customer preferences.
• A strong understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements.
• A reliable, organised approach and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced kitchen.
