About the role
About the role
We are an established Australian appliance company specialising in innovative kitchen appliances sold across Australia, New Zealand and international markets. We are looking for an experienced and technically minded Technical Quality & Compliance Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis. This is a unique hands-on role combining appliance repairs and fault diagnosis with product quality, compliance and new product development. Approximately 50% of the role will involve hands-on diagnosis and repair of appliances, while the remaining time will focus on quality, compliance, product testing, development and working with our manufacturers to continuously improve our products.
Working from our Hallam facility, you will be involved across the full product lifecycle — from assessing new products and prototypes through to investigating faults identified in the field. A key part of the role is using information gathered from repairs and warranty cases to identify recurring issues and work with our suppliers and manufacturers on long-term product improvements.
Key responsibilities
Diagnosing, fault-finding and repairing electrical kitchen appliances
Testing repaired appliances and confirming correct operation and safety
Identifying recurring product faults and determining their root causes
Investigating whether faults relate to components, manufacturing, design or other factors
Reviewing warranty and repair trends to identify opportunities for product improvement
Providing technical feedback and recommendations to management and manufacturers
Liaising with overseas factories regarding technical issues, product improvements and corrective actions
Assisting with the testing and evaluation of new products and prototypes
Participating in new product development and ongoing product improvements
Reviewing proposed component, material and design changes
Coordinating and maintaining Australian and New Zealand product compliance requirements
Working with certification bodies and testing laboratories where required
Reviewing technical documentation, compliance reports and certificates
Assisting with requirements relating to areas such as RCM, EESS, ACMA and applicable electrical/product safety standards
Developing and improving repair procedures, troubleshooting guides and technical documentation
Supporting our service and customer care teams with more complex technical matters
About you
Strong electrical/electronic fault-finding and repair skills
Experience repairing appliances, electrical equipment or similar products
Good understanding of electrical components, PCBs, motors, sensors and related systems
An analytical approach to diagnosing faults and identifying root causes
Experience in quality assurance, product testing or product compliance
An understanding of Australian electrical/product compliance requirements
Ability to read technical specifications, test reports and documentation
Strong communication and documentation skills
Confidence communicating technical issues with manufacturers and suppliers
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
A practical mindset with a genuine interest in understanding how products work and how they can be improved
Experience working with consumer electrical appliances, certification laboratories, overseas manufacturers or product development would be highly regarded.
Formal electrical, electronics, engineering or technical qualifications would also be advantageous, although relevant practical experience will be equally important.
Why This Role Is Different
This isn't a traditional appliance repair position.
You won't simply repair a product and move on to the next job.
When a fault occurs repeatedly, we want you to help determine why it is happening, how it can be improved and what changes should be made at manufacturing level to prevent it happening again.
Likewise, when we develop a new product, you will have the opportunity to test it, assess its construction and serviceability, provide technical feedback and contribute to improvements before and after launch.
It is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both hands-on technical work and the broader quality and product-development side of the appliance industry.
Hours & Remuneration
Permanent part-time
20 hours per week across 3 days
$45 per hour + super
Based at our Hallam, Victoria facility
On-site attendance is required due to the hands-on repair and product testing component
Apply
If you have strong hands-on technical skills but also enjoy looking beyond the immediate repair to understand product quality, compliance and continuous improvement, we'd like to hear from you.
Please submit your resume together with a brief introduction outlining your relevant repair, technical, quality or compliance experience.
