Our primary prevention work advocates gender equality and respectful relationships and is informed by and aligns with the policy landscape at the state, national and international levels.

Since 2019, Starick has been delivering the Respectful Relationships Teaching Support Program, a whole school, evidence based primary prevention program in public primary and secondary schools across Western Australia. This work includes the development and production of respectful relationships resource and training materials for WA schools, adapting materials and resources to the local context, provision of training, and facilitating a community of practice between schools.

About the Role

Starick has been funded to implement the Respectful Relationships Resource Development Project to support and strengthen respectful relationships education in Catholic and Independent schools in Western Australia. This is a discrete, time-limited project that Starick will deliver alongside the Respectful Relationships Teaching Support Program. The project aims to develop teaching and student resources to complement and support teaching and learning about respectful relationships in Catholic and Independent schools. The resources will be developed in close collaboration with Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) and Australian Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA).

The teacher resources suite including lesson plans and teacher background information will:

• provide practical tools, skills and strategies for teachers from Catholic and Independent schools to deliver respectful relationships education that is mapped to the HPE curriculum and existing programs within their classrooms.
• respond to diverse and vulnerable student cohorts, including but not limited to Aboriginal children and young people, children and young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds, children and young people with disability, children and young people in curriculum and re-engagement in education (CaRE) schools, and children and young people who identify as LGBTIQA+
• be developed in consideration of current and planned curriculum requirements and Catholic and Independent school contexts.

The Project Officer will support the Manager Resource Development to ensure the successful delivery of the Respectful Relationships Resource Development project.

Key Responsibilities

• providing assistance for the development of contextualized tools and teacher resources for Catholic and Independent school staff
• providing support to the development of resources designed for a diverse range of student cohorts from Catholic and Independent schools
• provide input to the development of training sessions to inform and familiarise Catholic and Independent school staff with the resources suite
• supporting coordination of stakeholder meetings including preparing agendas and minutes and keeping a record of actions.

About You

You are an organised, collaborative and detail‑oriented individual with a strong interest in respectful relationships education and primary prevention. You enjoy working in a project environment and are confident engaging with a range of stakeholders, including senior staff in government and non‑government organisations.

You will demonstrate:

• understanding of family and domestic violence and the gendered drivers of violence
• knowledge of primary prevention strategies and approaches
• understanding of the Western Australian education sector
• strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills
• excellent written and verbal communication skills
• strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
• high attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
• ability to handle confidential information with discretion
• proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Selection Criteria

Essential

• Knowledge and understanding of family and domestic violence and the gendered drivers of violence.
• Knowledge and understanding of primary prevention strategies and approaches relevant to family and domestic violence.
• Knowledge of the Western Australian education sector.
• Knowledge of whole school approaches to respectful relationships education.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate effectively to senior staff in government and non-government organisations and build relationships with key stakeholders.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

Desirable

• Previous development of family and domestic education resources including tailoring to meet local and cultural contexts.
• General knowledge of Catholic and Independent school sectors in Western Australia.

Requirements

• A national police clearance
• A Working with Children Card
• A current WA Drivers Licence
• Evidence of Right to Work in Australia
