Eastern Community Legal Centre (ECLC) is a multidisciplinary legal service that works to prevent problems, progress fair outcomes and support the wellbeing and resilience of communities and community members in Melbourne’s East.
About the role
The Managing Lawyer- Community Law Program (Local Communities Lead) will co-manage the Community Law Program within the Eastern Community Legal Centre. This role involves significant legal, mentoring, partnership and engagement skills. The role will have a number of direct reports and will also engage in strategic partnerships to continue to develop legal service provision for communities who live, work of study in Melbourne's eastern metropolitan region.

You will be an experienced lawyer, holding an unrestricted practising certificate in Victoria.
You will be a compassionate and empathetic person, who engages well with others, who embraces a position of curiosity in engaging with others and enjoy working within a diverse team of talented individuals across a range of professional disciplines.
You will enjoy and champion teamwork and know that successes of the team reflect on the organisation as a whole.
You will be eager to embrace the digital workplace, including new technologies- knowing that this assists communities whom the Eastern Community Legal Centre services.
You will have excellent organising and planning skills, able to anticipate needs and effectively manage tasks and deadlines while maintaining a high degree of self-awareness, resilience and professionalism.
Specifically, you will have:
Eligibility to hold an unrestricted legal practising certificate in Victoria
Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring and supporting lawyers, volunteers and other professionals
Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and respond to complex issues beyond the legal context
Experience planning, coordinating and delivering services for disadvantaged and vulnerable communities
Highly developed organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment
Experience developing partnerships and working effectively with stakeholders across community and government sectors
A commitment to multidisciplinary practice, continuous improvement and innovation
Experience in community legal services, trauma-informed practice, or working with diverse communities will be highly regarded
