About the role
Welcome to St John of God Health Care
St John of God Health Care is one of the largest private providers of health care services in Australia, employing more than 16,000 employees (caregivers). We operate 26 hospitals and services comprising more than 3,200 hospital beds, including home nursing, disability services and social outreach programs.
As a Catholic, not-for-profit group, we invest all profits to the communities we serve by updating and expanding our facilities and technology; expanding existing services and developing and acquiring new services; and providing Social Outreach services to people experiencing disadvantage to improve health and wellbeing.
St John of God Midland Public Hospital features 367 beds, offering state-of-the-art facilities that support expanded, high-quality healthcare services where Public patients can access a comprehensive range of hospital services and receive exceptional care, all free of charge.
Your role
As a Social Worker, you'll play a vital role in our collaborative multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, evidence-based clinical social work services that make a meaningful difference to the lives of our patients and their families.
This is an opportunity to work in a supportive and values-driven environment where your expertise is valued, and your professional growth is encouraged. Guided by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Code of Ethics, Practice Standards, and SJGHC policies, you'll provide compassionate, person-centred care while contributing to positive patient outcomes.
In this rewarding role, you'll deliver a broad range of social work assessments, interventions and support to patients, families and carers as they navigate complex health journeys. You'll also work closely with medical, nursing and allied health colleagues, providing expert consultation, fostering collaborative care, and demonstrating leadership through positive role modelling and professional excellence.
We currently have 1 permanent full-time position and 2 part-time Grade 1 Social Worker positions, working 19 to 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Those with Aged Care Assessor experience or willingness to commit to training once in the role will be highly regarded.
All applications will be considered for future positions as they become available over the next 6 months.
The Position
You will have well developed interpersonal and communication skills including conflict resolution, negotiation and problem solving, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary health care environment.
To succeed you will have a degree in social work and be eligible for membership with the AASW. You will possess demonstrated skills in social work assessment, case management and discharge planning with recent social work experience in a hospital or healthcare setting, including aged care.
Above all, patient care will be at the core of everything you do committing to and supporting our Mission and Values.
We can offer:
All applicants are asked to submit a covering letter (of no more than two (2) pages) demonstrating how you meet the above position requirements.
At St John of God Health Care, we celebrate diversity and warmly welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. Our commitment is to create a safe and nurturing environment for all children and vulnerable individuals in our care and proactively take steps to protect them from abuse, ensuring their safety and well-being. Our inclusive culture fosters an environment that is respectful and secure, welcoming and accessible, and unified through our diverse community.
