The Theatre Organ Society of Australia (South Australian Division) Incorporated has been a registered Association since 1971. It is a membership and volunteer-led not for profit organisation started in the 1960s by a group of theatre organ enthusiasts.

In 1978 the Society bought the Capri Theatre in Goodwood SA and set about restoring it to its former art deco moderne glory. Since 1983, the single screen 750 seat cinema theatre has been the home of a uniquely-installed WurliTzer theatre organ which delights patrons of all ages. The organ is the centrepiece of our mission to maintain the theatre organ tradition in a setting where it can be experienced in the same way as it was once enjoyed by cinema patrons around the world.

The Capri Theatre is a heritage-listed icon designed by renowned South Australian theatre architect Chris Smith. It has a well-documented history as a venue for the gathering of theatre organ enthusiasts, film patrons and concert-goers. It hosts live shows, corporate and private functions and provides a gracious space for film premieres, film festivals and fundraising events.

The Capri Theatre is managed by a small group of paid staff, led by an excellent full-time manager who has been with us for 13 years. Our large team of multi-skilled volunteers delivers front of house, administrative, property management, organ maintenance, lighting, electronic, technical and stage management services. All volunteer roles are unpaid and the Society has benefitted from the passion and commitment of many organ enthusiasts over the past 50 years. Many of these have had committee roles and make themselves very available to advise on issues as they arise. As part of its mission, TOSA SA is providing scholarships, tuition and performance opportunities to young, up and coming organ players.
