Bush School Teacher

The role

We are on the lookout for a passionate and engaging Bush School Teacher to lead the planning, coordination and delivery of the Preparatory School Bush School Program and Nature Playgroup, commencing January 2027. This unique role creates meaningful nature-based learning experiences for children from six months of age through to Year 3, inspiring exploration, creativity, confidence and a strong connection to the natural environment.

The Bush School Program supports students to develop curiosity, resilience, independence, environmental stewardship and a lifelong connection to nature. Through meaningful engagement with the natural world, students are encouraged to explore, question, create and develop a deeper appreciation for the environment around them.

In line with the School’s educational philosophy and Round Square membership, the program also provides students with opportunities to develop an understanding of local ecosystems, native flora and fauna, and the cultural significance of Country through engagement with Noongar knowledge, perspectives and history.

This is a wonderful opportunity for an educator with a strong understanding of early childhood development, play-based learning, inquiry-based practice and nature-based education. Spanning the School’s Nature Playgroup (6 months to 3 years) and Bush School Program (Pre-Kindergarten to Year 3), the role offers the rare opportunity to support children's growth and development across some of the most formative years of their learning journey. Working collaboratively with classroom teachers, school leaders, families and community partners, the Bush School Teacher will deliver developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that support learning inside, outside and beyond the classroom.

Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of early childhood development and play-based learning

• Strong knowledge of current curriculum and pedagogical developments, including nature-based learning, inquiry and play-based practices

• Strong knowledge of early childhood practice (zero to six years of age) within outdoor learning environments, including play-based learning and student-led inquiry experiences

• Demonstrated ability to foster meaningful connections with families, caregivers and the wider school community through nature-based learning programs

• Proven ability to motivate and engage students, differentiating as required to meet the needs of all students

• Ability to support and collaborate with colleagues to build understanding and confidence in nature-based learning experiences.

• Highly developed planning, communication, interpersonal and organisational skills

• Established understanding of risk assessing outdoor learning environments and the importance of risk-benefit assessment approaches.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Western Australian flora, fauna and local ecosystems, with the ability to design learning experiences that develop environmental understanding and stewardship

• Ability to use musicianship skills, including guitar, ukulele or similar instruments, to support student engagement and enhance Bush School and Nature Playgroup experiences

About You

• Hold a teaching degree, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

• Hold current TRBWA registration

• Provide proof of right to work in Australia

• Hold a current Working with Children Check

• Hold a current First Aid Certificate

• Hold a current Aquatic Rescue certificate

• Hold a current valid driver's licence

• Wilderness First Aid or similar is desirable but not essential

• Demonstrate a genuine commitment to student wellbeing, child safety, environmental stewardship and the Anglican ethos, values and strategic direction of Guildford Grammar School
