About the role
Vardir is seeking Expressions of Interest and Applications from qualified Archaeologists interested in joining our growing heritage team.
We are particularly interested in hearing from archaeologists who are available for casual project and fieldwork opportunities to support periods of increased project demand, as well as candidates who may be interested in ongoing or permanent employment opportunities with Vardir.
This opportunity may suit experienced archaeologists seeking additional project work, consultants looking for flexible casual engagements, or candidates interested in developing a longer-term career with a growing Western Australian consultancy.
About the Role
Depending on experience and project requirements, work may include:Archaeological surveys and field assessmentsAboriginal heritage surveys and on-Country fieldworkArchaeological site identification, recording and assessmentPreparation of field notes, site records and supporting documentationArchaeological and heritage reportingBackground research and desktop assessmentsWorking alongside Traditional Owners, Aboriginal Corporations, clients and other heritage specialistsSupporting heritage projects throughout metropolitan, regional and remote Western AustraliaAssisting with project preparation, logistics and post-fieldwork documentation
Casual work will generally be offered according to project requirements and individual availability, with opportunities varying throughout the year.
For suitable candidates, there may also be opportunities to be considered for permanent positions within Vardir's heritage team.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must hold a recognised university degree in Archaeology or a relevant degree with a substantial archaeological component.
Applicants should also have:A current Australian driver's licenceAbility and willingness to undertake regional and remote fieldworkStrong written and verbal communication skillsGood organisational and record-keeping skillsAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary teamA professional and respectful approach when working with Traditional Owners, Aboriginal communities, clients and colleagues
Previous experience undertaking Aboriginal heritage surveys in Western Australia will be highly regarded.
Desirable
Experience in one or more of the following will be advantageous:Western Australian Aboriginal heritage consultingArchaeological survey and site recordingHeritage reportingGIS/GPS field data collectionWorking with Aboriginal Corporations and Traditional Owner groupsRemote and regional fieldworkHeritage approvals and associated legislative frameworks

As our project portfolio continues to grow, we are building a broader network of qualified archaeologists who can support our team when additional project capacity is required, while also identifying people who may be a strong fit for longer-term roles within the business.
